Prayer to the Guardian Angel

O holy Angel, my good guardian and protector! With a contrite heart and an aching soul I stand before thee, entreating thus: hear me, a sinner (name), who cry out with bitter lament and weeping; remember not my iniquities and unrighteousness, whereby I, wretched one, have angered thee unto this very day and hour, and have made myself abominable before our Creator, the Lord. Show thyself merciful to me, and depart not from me, defiled as I am, until my end. Rouse me from the sleep of sin, and help me by thy prayer to pass the remaining time of my life blamelessly and to bring forth fruit worthy of repentance; and above all keep me from falling into deadly sins, lest I perish in despair and mine enemy rejoice at my perdition. I know truly and confess with my lips that none is such a friend and helper to me, such a guardian and fellow-warrior, as thou, O holy Angel, who standest before the throne of the Lord and prayest for me, unprofitable and more sinful than all, that the all-good One may not cast away my soul on the day of my death and of the universal judgement. Cease not to entreat my all-merciful Lord and God that He forgive me the transgressions I have committed all the days of my life in deed and word and with all my senses, and that He save me by the dispensation He Himself knoweth: let Him rather chasten me here in His ineffable mercy, but not convict me and call me to account there in His all-seeing justice; and may He make me worthy to offer repentance, and with repentance worthily to receive the divine Communion, for which above all I entreat thee, and for such a grace I long with all my heart. And at the dread hour of death depart not from me, my good protector; drive away the dark demons that seek to terrify my trembling soul; keep me from their snares when I must pass through the toll-houses of the aerial watchers, that, kept by thee, I may come without hindrance to the Paradise I long for, where the choirs of the saints and of the heavenly powers unceasingly praise the all-honourable and majestic name of God glorified in three Persons, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, to whom is due honour and worship unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O Angel of God, my holy guardian, given me by God from heaven to keep me! I pray thee earnestly: enlighten me and keep me from all evil, guide me to good deeds and direct me on the path of salvation. Amen.
