Supplicatory Paraklesis to the All-Holy Trinity
Through the prayers of our holy fathers, O Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us.
Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.
O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, who art everywhere present and fillest all things with Thy grace, Treasury of good things and Giver of life: come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O Good One. *
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, deliver us and release us from our sins; O Master, pardon our iniquities; O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name’s sake.
Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Lord, have mercy. (Twelve times)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
O come, let us worship God our King. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King and God. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King and our God.
O Lord, attend to my prayer: hearken to my supplication in thy truth; hear me in thy righteousness. And enter not into judgment with thy servant, for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has brought my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in a dark place, as those that have been long dead. Therefore my spirit was grieved in me; my heart was troubled within me. I remembered the days of old; and I meditated on all thy doings: yea, I meditated on the works of thine hands. I spread forth my hands to thee; my soul thirsts for thee, as a dry land. Pause. Hear me speedily, O Lord; my spirit has failed; turn not away thy face from me, else I shall be like to them that go down to the pit. Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning; for I have hoped in thee; make known to me, O Lord, the way wherein I should walk; for I have lifted up my soul to thee. Deliver me from mine enemies, O Lord; for I have fled to thee for refuge. Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God; thy good Spirit shall guide me in the straight way. Thou shalt quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake; in thy righteousness thou shalt bring my soul out of affliction. And in thy mercy thou wilt destroy mine enemies, and wilt destroy all those that afflict my soul; for I am thy servant.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.
God is the Lord and hath appeared unto us; blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord. Verse 1: O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever. Verse 2: All the nations compassed me about, and in the name of the Lord I withstood them. Verse 3: I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. Verse 4: The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner; this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes. Troparion, Tone 8
Blessed art Thou, O Christ our God, who hast revealed the fishermen as most wise by sending down upon them Thy most Holy Spirit, and through them didst draw the world into Thy net: O Lover of mankind, glory to Thee.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. (The same troparion)
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
We will never cease, O Theotokos, we the unworthy, from speaking of thy mighty acts; for hadst thou not stood before us to intercede, who would have delivered us from so many dangers? And who would have kept us free until now? We will not depart from thee, O Lady, for thou ever savest thy servants from all misfortunes. Ode 1, irmos. Ode 3, irmos.
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of thy compassions blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I am conscious of mine iniquity; and my sin is continually before me. Against thee only have I sinned, and done evil before thee: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. For, behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me. For, behold, thou lovest truth: thou hast manifested to me the secret and hidden things of thy wisdom. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be purified: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. Thou shalt cause me to hear gladness and joy: the afflicted bones shall rejoice. Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in my inward parts. Cast me not away from thy presence; and remove not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation: establish me with thy directing Spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and ungodly men shall turn to thee. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation: and my tongue shall joyfully declare thy righteousness. O Lord, thou shalt open my lips; and my mouth shall declare thy praise. For if thou desiredst sacrifice, I would have given it: thou wilt not take pleasure in whole-burnt-offerings. Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit: a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, to Sion in thy good pleasure; and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then shalt thou be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, offering, and whole-burnt-sacrifices: then shall they offer calves upon thine altar.
Delivered from bitter bondage, Israel passed over an impassable land, and, seeing his enemies drowned, sang a hymn to God the Wonderworker, for He hath been glorified.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
One Godhead, one power and dominion, and an endless kingdom hast Thou, O Holy Trinity; therefore we the unworthy entreat Thee, and cry with the thrice-holy voice: Holy art Thou, O Lord!
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
Be enlightened today, ye worshippers of God, three in Persons and one in nature, to whom Christ in His goodness hath granted the light of deliverance and hath given grace through the divine Spirit.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Let us, the Orthodox, speak of God as of an undivided nature, God the Father without beginning, and likewise the creating Word, and the Holy Spirit, crying: Blessed art Thou, O Lord, from everlasting to everlasting.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Thou art a temple, O Virgin Theotokos, through the descent upon thee of the grace of the Holy Spirit, when power from on high was given thee, O holy one, and thou didst bear in person the Word without beginning.
The Spirit, equal in honour with the Father and the Son, whose is the authority given, proceeding ineffably from the Father, maketh the fishermen wise by the Spirit and fulfilleth the promises of Christ.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
To us the faithful wisdom hath been given, and we confess today God in three Persons, unsearchable in nature, and with the angels we worship the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and cry to the Trinity, consubstantial and undivided, God and Lord of the ages.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
We the faithful have now come to know the power of the Holy Trinity which is above nature, and we confess with faith the one essence of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and say: O God of our fathers, blessed art Thou for ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Trinity, uncircumscribed, one in essence, divinely ineffable, in three Persons, hath taught us the faithful to confess Her, and Her we worship with faith now and unto the ages.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
O radiant chariot, clothed with light, dwelling of the Light, all-blessed Virgin, higher than the Cherubim and more honourable than the Seraphim, Lady Mary, who didst carry God in thine arms; therefore we all sing to thee, O all-immaculate one.
Deliver thy servants from dangers, O most holy Virgin Theotokos, for after God we all flee unto thee, as to an unbreakable wall and protection.
Look upon us, O all-praised Theotokos, and heal the grievous wounds of our bodies and the sicknesses of our souls.
Priest: Have mercy on us, O God… with the exclamation. Sessional hymn, Tone 8. Ode 4, irmos. Ode 5, irmos. Ode 6, irmos.
O apostles, filled with the joy of the Saviour, who imitated His sufferings and gained boldness towards Him, ye who were first held fast by fear have now received the Holy Spirit, who came down upon you today and gave you to speak to the people in other tongues; and the Holy Spirit sent you forth to the nations like fire, not burning but rather pouring forth the grace of the Holy Spirit.
To the Son born of the Father without change before the ages, and in the latter days incarnate without seed of the Virgin, to Christ our God let us cry: Thou who hast exalted our horn, holy art Thou, O Lord.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
O Holy Trinity, Creator of creatures, who workest without toil and savest the Orthodox, put to shame the heretics who assail us, and we shall cry: Blessed art Thou.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
The uncreated Trinity, who created all beings in an instant, an essence unchanging and uncircumscribed, known in one Godhead and glorified in one essence, the One alone, we the faithful have confessed, and we bless Her.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
O Trinity, incomprehensible in Godhead, grant Thy grace to us who revere Thee, that we may be made worthy to confess Thy Godhead with faith, and, being enlightened, may magnify Thee in song.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Thou art the noetic gate, whom we call light, O Mother of God, and Christ was born of thee, and adorned the whole world with divine radiance; and the invisible God dwelt among us visibly in our likeness, to whom we sing: Glory to Thy power, O Lord.
Being the God of peace and the Father of mercies, Thou hast sent unto us Thine Angel of great counsel, granting us peace; so, guided to the light of the knowledge of God, rising early out of the night, we glorify Thee, O Lover of mankind.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
O Holy Trinity, exalt today the horn of the Church unbending, beyond nature, upon the height of Thy faith, an unshakeable foundation, and strengthen her therein.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
Thus we know the true God, one in essence by nature and in three Persons by their properties: perfectly is He called the one radiance of three suns, one might, one dominion, one kingdom, the Holy Trinity.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
The nature of the Trinity, taught as one in essence and known in three Persons, the one power, the one authority, the undivided kingdom, the bodiless ones hymn with the thrice-holy song: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord, the invisible King of Sabaoth; heaven and earth are full of His glory.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Thou didst loose the curse of our first mother Eve by thy birthgiving, O Virgin, joy of the world and giver of peace, for through thee Christ our Deliverer sprang forth; therefore with joy we offer thee “Rejoice”, O Theotokos, and call thee blessed with praises, O immaculate one.
Of old the destroying beast swallowed Jonah and cast him forth incorrupt; and in the womb of the Virgin the Word of God became flesh and kept her who bore Him incorrupt, and, changing natures as He willed, He saved us.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
O Thou who art above all natures, the One and the fullness of all that exists, the Cause of all good things, known in three Persons, God the Father who begettest, Son begotten, and life-giving Spirit, save Thy faithful.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
Glory, glory, glory to Thee, O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one Unity, one Lordship and Authority, whose name is righteous and holy.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
O Trinity in three Persons, glorified in one essence, those enlightened by Thee have established Thine everlasting light, to confess and praise Thee, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, our God, unto the ages.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
The whole choir of the prophets, made wise by God, foretold thine ineffable mysteries and the incarnation of God the Word through thee, O Virgin Theotokos, for thou art truly the radiance of the world and our boast.
Deliver thy servants from dangers, O most holy Virgin Theotokos, for after God we all flee unto thee, as to an unbreakable wall and protection.
Look down upon us, O all-praised Theotokos, and heal the evil wounds of our bodies and the sicknesses of our soul. Kontakion, Tone 8. The Gospel according to John. Ode 7, irmos. Ode 8, irmos. Ode 9, irmos.
Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)
When the Most High came down and confused the tongues, He divided the nations; but when He distributed the tongues of fire, He called all to unity; wherefore, with one voice, we glorify the All-Holy Spirit.
Priest: Let us attend. Wisdom.
Prokeimenon before the Gospel:
Thy good Spirit shall lead me into the land of uprightness.
Verse:
O Lord, hear my prayer; give ear to my supplication.
Priest: Let us pray to the Lord. For holy art Thou, O our God… Let everything that hath breath… And that He may make us worthy… Wisdom! Aright! Let us hear the holy Gospel…
Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. And when He had so said, He shewed unto them His hands and His side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as My Father hath sent Me, even so send I you. And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Spirit: whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Merciful One, blot out the multitude of our transgressions.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Merciful One, blot out the multitude of our transgressions.
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy compassions blot out my transgression, and have mercy on me, O God.
Grant swift, quiet and untroubled peace to Thy servants, O Jesus our God, in the affliction and despondency of our souls; but help us, draw near and stretch out Thy hand, as Thou wast ever with Thy disciples, O Deliverer; so also, O Good One, unite Thyself to these who long for Thee, that, united to Thee, we may extol Thee and with trembling glorify the All-Holy Spirit.
Priest: O God, save Thy people… with the exclamation.
The youths, brought up together in piety, disregarding the command of the ungodly, feared not the threat of fire, but, standing in the midst of the flame, they sang: O God of our fathers, blessed art Thou.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
Come, ye faithful, to the Godhead, the Trinity glorified in one essence and incomprehensible in essence, the Son begotten without beginning and the Holy Spirit co-eternal: bless, ye children; sing, ye priests; ye people, supremely exalt Her unto the ages.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
The Trinity, higher than all human nature, was revealed to the faithful: the Father bore witness from heaven to the beloved Son, and the Holy Spirit was seen descending in the form of a dove, whom we bless and supremely exalt unto the ages.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Thee, O our God, who camest forth from God, we have beheld incarnate, and through Thee we have seen Thy Father, the invisible God, one in essence with the Holy Spirit, and we said: Bless the Lord, all ye works of the Lord.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
The three youths in the Babylonian furnace, who were preserved in the fire, prefigured the image of thy birthgiving; and thou, O Theotokos, didst carry in thy womb the divine fire and wast kept unburnt, for through thee shone forth the God of our fathers.
The furnace moist with dew was an image of a wonder beyond nature: for it burned not the youths whom it had received, as neither did the fire of the Godhead burn the Virgin’s womb into which it had entered. Therefore let us cry out in praise: Bless the Lord, ye works of the Lord, and supremely exalt Him unto the ages.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
We the faithful confess the Holy Trinity in three Persons, God without beginning, one in nature, undivided; and we worship in Orthodoxy and cry with faith: All ye works of the Lord, sing to the Lord and supremely exalt Him unto the ages.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
The timeless Word, the only one without beginning, with the only Father without beginning, the divine true Light, reigning together with the Holy Spirit, known as one in essence, we the faithful have confessed, and we worship and supremely exalt Him unto the ages.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit of God, incomprehensible, one in essence with the Father and reigning together with the Son, who is the image of power, the Creator, who moved upon the face of the waters, who appeared in the form of a dove with the Father and the Son, we the faithful bless as one Godhead, and supremely exalt Him unto the ages.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Who would not marvel at the grace bestowed through thee? The Word without beginning, rich in mercy, who for our sake took poverty upon Himself, was born of the holy Virgin; therefore all creation singeth in song and blesseth Thee unto the ages.
Rejoice, O holy Lady, glory of women, jewel of virgins, for we cannot speak worthily in praise of thy birthgiving; therefore we magnify thee with faith.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
The essence of the Godhead, unchanging and unsearchable in its properties, three in Persons, we the faithful confess with faith: the Father with the Son and the Holy Spirit, the all-holy Trinity ineffably exalted and praised as one Godhead, we hymn in theology and say: Bless the Lord, all ye works of the Lord; sing and supremely exalt Him unto the ages.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
The ranks of the bodiless in heaven unceasingly praise the Holy Trinity and say: Holy, holy, holy is the Holy Trinity, equal in Godhead; and we, the unworthy, with them, in right confession and according to our strength, glorify Her with fear.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
We praise the Father without beginning, we hymn the Son without beginning, we worship the Holy Spirit glorified in one Godhead; let us the faithful, together with the heavenly ranks, sing to the Trinity, one Godhead, and bless Her unto the ages.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
O Bride of God, immaculate Virgin, we magnify thee with praises and worthily honour thee, O full of grace; deliver us from trials by thy supplication.
It is truly meet that we should magnify thee, O Theotokos, who art ever-blessed and all-immaculate and the Mother of our God. More honourable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who without corruption gavest birth to God the Word, the only Theotokos, we magnify in song.
The priest censes.
The Trinity one in essence, undivided and unconfused, wondrous and most glorious, threefold in Persons and unconfused, which is neither divided nor cometh to an end, by whom all things were created, we now glorify with praises.
Ye heavens of heavens, ye hosts of angels, earth and ye that dwell in the world, things visible and invisible, things below and things above, with the sons of men, ye priests and people, bless the Trinity and supremely exalt Her unto the ages.
O incomprehensible Trinity, grant Thy servants a right confession, that we may proclaim Thee perfect God, in three Persons unconfused in their properties, undivided in nature, glorified in one essence, and together we say: All ye works of the Lord, bless our God unto the ages.
Glory to Thee, O all-holy Trinity, one in essence and undivided in nature, Father and Son, and life-giving Spirit who is between Them, Light unapproachable and unfailing; deliver from affliction us who magnify Thee in song.
Thou art the temple and the gate, the palace and the throne of the King, O all-immaculate Virgin, through whom Christ the Lord, our Deliverer, appeared as the Sun of righteousness to those who sit in darkness, to enlighten those whom He fashioned in His own image with His own hand; wherefore, O all-hymned one, as thou hast a mother’s boldness towards Him, intercede unceasingly for the salvation of our souls.
(Thrice)
Glory… Both now…
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Priest: For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, unto the ages of ages. Amen. A prayer to the Holy Trinity, to be said kneeling
O All-Holy Trinity, one in essence, incomprehensible Power, Father Almighty, Only-begotten Son and Holy Spirit, one God, who art the Creator and Lord of all things visible and invisible; by whose power all the ends of the universe are held together and by whose wisdom they are governed; before whom trembleth every being and creature, the elements and all that hath breath, in the heavens, on the earth and under the earth; whose love, together with Thy power, is ineffable, bottomless and boundless; who for the sake of this love didst create the first man in Thine image and likeness, and when he fell by his sin didst not utterly abhor him, but didst will our salvation again by sending Thine Only-begotten Son, and through His offering, His nailing to the Cross and His dread death, didst cleanse our sins; who didst send down Thy Holy Spirit upon the holy disciples and apostles of Christ and didst make them wise, and through them the Gospel of Christ was preached in all the world; who in Thy great love for mankind didst remember in that first age our Georgian people also, and madest it the lot of the Mother of God, and didst till it by the labours and struggles of the holy apostles Andrew the First-called, Simon the Canaanite and Matthias; who, when our people, the lot of the Mother of God, was darkened again by the gloom of idolatry, didst send it the holy virgin, Mother Nino, made wise and armed by the Holy Spirit, and didst enlighten it with the true faith; who in Thy justice righteously bringest wrath upon us for our sins, and in Thy long-suffering hast mercy: we fall down before Thee and entreat Thee, O good Lord: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vineyard, the inheritance of the Georgians, and our people that dwelleth in it, many times cut down and oppressed by the violence of the wicked, and strengthen it. Keep, O Lord, our holy Church and all her children. Remember, O Lord, our most blessed and most holy Patriarch Ilia, Catholicos of Mtskheta and Patriarch of All Georgia and Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazeti; the most reverend hierarchs and our lord… (here the local bishop is commemorated); the honourable priests and deacons, the monks and nuns; make them wise day by day, O Lord, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, and by their prayers and struggles guide well the steps of our people on the way of salvation.
My hope is the Father, my refuge is the Son, my protection is the Holy Spirit: O Holy Trinity, glory to Thee.
O our Lord Jesus Christ, who hast taught us to receive whatsoever we ask of Thy heavenly Father in Thy name! Behold, trusting unerringly in Thy words, we ask of God Almighty, the Giver of every good thing, that, according to the teaching of the holy apostle, the goodness of God may lead us to repentance, who by our hardness and impenitent heart treasure up for ourselves wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgement of God. Deliver us, O Lord, from a faith that is not living and is lukewarm; turn our hearts from vain deeds and from love of the pleasures of this passing and swiftly fleeting world; open our eyes to behold the glory of the world that passeth not away, and our minds to judge rightly of the things profitable to our souls; kindle in our hearts the lamp of love for Thee, and turn us from every evil way, that we, Thy servants and handmaids fallen through sin, but raised up by Thy help and giving thanks to Thee, may sing to Thee, bless Thee, glorify Thee and entreat Thee: Holy art Thou, holy art Thou, holy art Thou, O our God; have mercy on us according to Thy great mercy. Amen.
Thou wast chosen by God, the Holy Trinity, and shinest before Him, Lady Mary, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, and thou hast boldness towards thy Son: entreat Him to save us, together with the Father and the Holy Spirit, unto the ages. Amen.
The priest gives the dismissal.
