Paraklesis to the Holy Great-martyr George, the Trophy-bearer and Wonderworker
Priest: Blessed is our God…
And if a layman, he says: Through the prayers of our holy fathers, O Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us. Amen.
Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.
O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, who art everywhere present and fillest all things with Thy grace, Treasury of good things and Giver of life: come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O Good One.
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, deliver us and release us from our sins; O Master, pardon our iniquities; O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name’s sake.
Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Priest: For Thine is the kingdom…
Lord, have mercy. (Twelve times)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
O come, let us worship God our King. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King and God. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King and our God.
O Lord, attend to my prayer: hearken to my supplication in thy truth; hear me in thy righteousness. And enter not into judgment with thy servant, for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has brought my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in a dark place, as those that have been long dead. Therefore my spirit was grieved in me; my heart was troubled within me. I remembered the days of old; and I meditated on all thy doings: yea, I meditated on the works of thine hands. I spread forth my hands to thee; my soul thirsts for thee, as a dry land. Pause. Hear me speedily, O Lord; my spirit has failed; turn not away thy face from me, else I shall be like to them that go down to the pit. Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning; for I have hoped in thee; make known to me, O Lord, the way wherein I should walk; for I have lifted up my soul to thee. Deliver me from mine enemies, O Lord; for I have fled to thee for refuge. Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God; thy good Spirit shall guide me in the straight way. Thou shalt quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake; in thy righteousness thou shalt bring my soul out of affliction. And in thy mercy thou wilt destroy mine enemies, and wilt destroy all those that afflict my soul; for I am thy servant.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.
God is the Lord and hath appeared unto us; blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Verse 1: O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever. Verse 2: All the nations compassed me about, and in the name of the Lord I withstood them. Verse 3: I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. Verse 4: The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner; this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes.
Liberator of captives, helper of the poor, physician of the sick, invincible champion of kings, O victorious great-martyr George, entreat Christ God to have mercy on our souls.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Thou didst struggle mightily for Christ and for His faith, and didst endure harsh sufferings and rebuke the ungodliness of the tyrants, and didst offer thyself to God as a well-pleasing sacrifice; therefore thou didst receive the crown of victory, and now by thine intercession, O holy martyr George, thou grantest all men forgiveness of sins.
Both now…
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
We will never cease, O Theotokos, we the unworthy, from speaking of thy mighty acts; for hadst thou not stood before us to intercede, who would have delivered us from so many dangers? And who would have kept us free until now? We will not depart from thee, O Lady, for thou ever savest thy servants from all misfortunes.
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of thy compassions blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I am conscious of mine iniquity; and my sin is continually before me. Against thee only have I sinned, and done evil before thee: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. For, behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me. For, behold, thou lovest truth: thou hast manifested to me the secret and hidden things of thy wisdom. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be purified: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. Thou shalt cause me to hear gladness and joy: the afflicted bones shall rejoice. Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in my inward parts. Cast me not away from thy presence; and remove not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation: establish me with thy directing Spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and ungodly men shall turn to thee. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation: and my tongue shall joyfully declare thy righteousness. O Lord, thou shalt open my lips; and my mouth shall declare thy praise. For if thou desiredst sacrifice, I would have given it: thou wilt not take pleasure in whole-burnt-offerings. Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit: a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, to Sion in thy good pleasure; and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then shalt thou be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, offering, and whole-burnt-sacrifices: then shall they offer calves upon thine altar.
Irmos: The multitude of chariots with their horsemen Thou didst cast into the depths of the Red Sea by the strength of Thine arm, O Christ, and Thou didst save the Israelites, and they sang a new song of victory.

The Lord said to His disciples: Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; and ye shall be brought before governors and kings for My sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for My name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

The prophet beheld thee of old as a radiant lampstand, O all-immaculate one, bearing Christ, the spiritual candle, by whom we who lay in the darkness of the passions have been enlightened; therefore we call thee blessed, O Theotokos, ever-Virgin.
It is truly meet to bless thee, O Theotokos, ever-blessed and all-spotless, and the Mother of our God. More honourable than the Cherubim and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who without corruption gavest birth to God the Word, the very Theotokos, thee do we magnify.
The priest censes.
Come, ye Orthodox people, heirs of the faith, let us rejoice and daily sing the praises of the wondrous and truly valiant martyr, the passion-bearer George, for he ungrudgingly grants grace to them that fervently entreat him.
O valiant warrior of Christ God, holy martyr George! As thou art the intercessor and swift helper of them that call upon thee in temptations, set me also free from grievous pains and sins, and fill me with divine love.
O passion-bearer, great-martyr George, who didst many times allay the fury of the afflictions that came upon our nation, now also bring to nothing the craftiness of our countless enemies, who have cast lots for our inheritance, and preserve those who dwell in it from the invasion of foreigners and from temptations.
O all-praised valiant martyr! As of old thou didst show thy wondrous protection to our people, who rose early to the faith, so now also, O holy one, ask for the unshaken preservation of the churches, for victory to be given to our people through the Cross, for the steadfastness of the faithful and the exaltation of their horn over the heretics, for peace to the world and mercy to them that sing thy praise.
O passion-bearer, holy martyr George, commend us who ever fall down before thy mighty help to the protectress of our people, the Virgin Mary, that we may not become a reproach and a laughing-stock to the heathen and the heretics, but, after the custom of the men of our fatherland, may adorn the undivided and unconfused Trinity with “Holy” and with “Alleluia”:
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
O Lord, have mercy on us, for we have put our trust in Thee; be not exceeding wroth with us, nor remember our iniquities; but look upon us now, as Thou art compassionate, and deliver us from Thy just wrath; for Thou art our God, and we are Thy people; we are all the work of Thy hands, and Thy name is called upon us; and have mercy on us.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Choir: Lord, have mercy. (40 times)
Priest: Hear us, O God our Saviour, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of them that are far off upon the sea; and be gracious, be merciful unto our sins, and have mercy on us; for Thou art a merciful God who lovest mankind, and unto Thee we send up glory, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages.

O great-martyr George, radiant in comeliness, luminary of all the world and valiant soldier of Christ God, invincible champion of the Georgian people and protector of our Church, helper of the faithful, joy and gladness of the sorrowful, deliverer of captives and intercessor before God for all who entreat and glorify thee.
O God-crowned great-martyr George! Remember us before God, and with the brightness of thy holiness look upon the inheritance of the Georgians and upon our Orthodox people dwelling in it, many times distressed by the assaults of tyrants, and strengthen it. Subdue beneath the feet of Christians the hostile enemies, visible and invisible; and as thou wast a fellow-warrior at Didgori with the God-loving King David and didst grant him a “wondrous victory” over the foreigners, so now intercede for us with Christ and ask for us that He turn away the wrath risen against us for the multitude of our sins, and like Lazarus raise our fatherland – Georgia – to its former glory, that we be not trampled by plundering foreign tribes and peoples, and that the heathen may not say: Where is their God, in whom they hope? Strengthen in their ministry the Most Holy and Most Blessed Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazeti, our father Ilia, the most reverend metropolitans, archbishops and bishops, and all the priestly and monastic orders, the commanders and governors of cities; with thy mighty power strengthen the Christ-loving armies, and our benefactors, and all Orthodox Christians.
O valiant martyr, glorious in struggle, holy George! By thy God-glorified wonders and signs free the captives, heal the weak, deliver those in trials, save those who sail upon the sea, turn sinners and bring them to Christ God, who receiveth all. Glorify and exalt in soul and body all who love the martyrs and glorify thy holy name, that we may all be made worthy of the glory of the kingdom and the magnificent radiance of God, may sing with the angels, glorify with the saints, and, saved with thee, bless the Father who crowned thee, the Son who strengthened thee and the Holy Spirit who spoke in thee, to whom befitteth all glory, honour and worship, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
O beauty of martyrs and ascetics, my schooling and my radiance, sweet in name and in deed, most fruitful labour of the King, adornment of all the righteous, great and victorious soldier of Christ God against the unbelieving enemies, holy great-martyr George, who didst preach His holy and glorious name before lawless kings and princes and didst not tremble at their threats and torments, but didst receive with eagerness through manifold torments the cup of martyrdom and didst set upon thyself the crown of incorruption from the life-giving right hand of the Most High: now in heaven thou standest with the angels before His throne by His grace, and on earth thou workest signs, wonders and glorious marvels without number. Come now and stand in our midst, and bountifully share with those who praise and sing to thee grace, mercy and forgiveness of sins, and direct us on the path of peace to the longed-for dwellings, to the kingdom of heaven, in Christ Jesus our Lord, to whom befitteth all glory, honour and worship, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Priest: Wisdom!
O most holy Theotokos, save us.

Choir: Amen.
Layman: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)
O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Thine all-holy Mother, of the holy great-martyr George the Trophy-bearer and of all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.
While his icon is kissed we sing thus:
Beholding thy holy icon with love, O valiant warrior of Christ, we kiss it with longing and, falling down, entreat thee: O holy great-martyr George, though we are unworthy because of our sins, help us, for thou hast boldness, and deliver from grievous sins, from infirmities and from the many snares of the enemy us who ask thee with hope and sing thy praise.
O all-radiant Lady Mary, through the prayers of the great-martyr George the Trophy-bearer direct the days of our life to the glory of thy Son and our God. Amen.
