Paraklesis to the Holy All-praised Apostle Andrew the First-called
Through the prayers of our holy fathers, O Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us. Amen.
Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.
O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, who art everywhere present and fillest all things, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O Good One.
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, deliver us and release us from our sins; O Master, pardon our iniquities; O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name’s sake.
Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Lord, have mercy. (Twelve times)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
O come, let us worship God our King. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King and God. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King and our God.
O Lord, attend to my prayer: hearken to my supplication in thy truth; hear me in thy righteousness. And enter not into judgment with thy servant, for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has brought my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in a dark place, as those that have been long dead. Therefore my spirit was grieved in me; my heart was troubled within me. I remembered the days of old; and I meditated on all thy doings: yea, I meditated on the works of thine hands. I spread forth my hands to thee; my soul thirsts for thee, as a dry land. Pause. Hear me speedily, O Lord; my spirit has failed; turn not away thy face from me, else I shall be like to them that go down to the pit. Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning; for I have hoped in thee; make known to me, O Lord, the way wherein I should walk; for I have lifted up my soul to thee. Deliver me from mine enemies, O Lord; for I have fled to thee for refuge. Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God; thy good Spirit shall guide me in the straight way. Thou shalt quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake; in thy righteousness thou shalt bring my soul out of affliction. And in thy mercy thou wilt destroy mine enemies, and wilt destroy all those that afflict my soul; for I am thy servant.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O God (Thrice).
God is the Lord and hath appeared unto us; blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.
O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever.
All the nations compassed me about, and in the name of the Lord I withstood them.
I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner; this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes.
As the first-called of the apostles and brother of their chief, O Andrew, entreat the Master of all to grant peace to the world and great mercy to our souls.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As the first-called of the apostles and brother of their chief, O Andrew, entreat the Master of all to grant peace to the world and great mercy to our souls.
Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
We will never cease, O Theotokos, we the unworthy, from speaking of thy mighty acts; for hadst thou not stood before us to intercede, who would have delivered us from so many dangers? And who would have kept us free until now? We will not depart from thee, O Lady, for thou ever savest thy servants from all misfortunes.
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of thy compassions blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I am conscious of mine iniquity; and my sin is continually before me. Against thee only have I sinned, and done evil before thee: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. For, behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me. For, behold, thou lovest truth: thou hast manifested to me the secret and hidden things of thy wisdom. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be purified: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. Thou shalt cause me to hear gladness and joy: the afflicted bones shall rejoice. Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in my inward parts. Cast me not away from thy presence; and remove not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation: establish me with thy directing Spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and ungodly men shall turn to thee. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation: and my tongue shall joyfully declare thy righteousness. O Lord, thou shalt open my lips; and my mouth shall declare thy praise. For if thou desiredst sacrifice, I would have given it: thou wilt not take pleasure in whole-burnt-offerings. Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit: a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, to Sion in thy good pleasure; and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then shalt thou be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, offering, and whole-burnt-sacrifices: then shall they offer calves upon thine altar.
The wonder-working rod of Moses of old, striking in the form of the Cross and dividing the Red Sea, drowned Pharaoh the charioteer and saved Israel, who fled across on foot singing a song to the Lord, for He hath been gloriously glorified.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
With the net of the Gospel thou didst draw up the nations from the depth of error, O Andrew, as the unoriginate Word promised thee, saying that He was sending thee as a fisher of the race of men, to catch them like fish.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
Once thou wast seen as a fisherman on the breadth of the sea, but afterwards with the net of the Gospel thou didst catch tribes, nations and tongues, O worthy one, and didst wisely reveal to them the unsearchable depth of heaven, O thou who art gloriously glorified.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
Cleanse my soul, troubled by passions and thoughts, O Andrew, herald of Christ, by thy divine grace, that, being cleansed, I may sing of thy wonders.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
With faith we glorify the consubstantiality of the unoriginate Trinity; we neither divide it in Godhead nor confound it, but fittingly unite it in nature and essence, and likewise distinguish it in Persons, and we worship.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Rejoice, fountain of joy; rejoice, gate of heaven; rejoice, lampstand and jar of pure gold, who didst carry Christ, the Giver of life.
Be my strength, O Creator of heaven and of earth upon the waters; establish me, O Christ, upon the rock of the Church, for none is holy as Thou, O Lover of mankind.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
Like a hart thou didst hasten, not called but of thine own will, to the living fountain; and having found it, thou didst make it known to all; and having drunk, thou didst give the water of incorruption to drink to all the ends of the earth, worn out with thirst.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
Thou didst destroy the temples of idols and raise up churches, O God-bearing one, and didst establish in them the faithful children of baptism, born anew of water and by the grace of the Spirit.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
The priceless pearl hidden in thy heart thou didst show to the ends of the world, O glorious Andrew; and the nations, treasuring it up by faith, found it lying before them.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Let us sing with faith the consubstantial Trinity, without beginning, uncreated, one in essence, co-enthroned, in three hypostases, of threefold radiance, through whom things visible and invisible were made.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Every childbirth destroys virginity; but thou, remaining a virgin after giving birth to God, didst nourish Life with milk and didst keep thyself incorrupt, abiding Virgin and Mother.
Deliver thy servants from dangers, O most holy Virgin Theotokos, for after God we all flee unto thee, as to an unbreakable wall and protection.
Look down with favour upon us, O all-praised Theotokos, and heal the grievous wounds of our bodies and the sicknesses of our souls.
Priest: The augmented litany with its exclamation
As the first-called of all the disciples, an eyewitness and minister of the Word, O apostle Andrew, we honour thee as is meet; for with undoubting faith thou didst fervently follow the Lamb who taketh away the sins of the world, and so thou wast shown a partaker of the Passion of Him who for our sake endured death in the flesh. Therefore we sing to thee: entreat Christ God to grant forgiveness of sins to them that lovingly keep thy holy memory.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Thou didst overthrow the madness of the idols, having longed for the Passion of the Saviour, O blessed apostle, and thou didst appear to the heathen as a river of wonders from on high, O all-blessed one, for thou wast a teacher to all. Therefore we worthily honour thy memory, hymn thee in songs and magnify thee with faith, O apostle Andrew: entreat Christ God to grant remission of sins to them that lovingly keep thy holy memory.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Rejoice, fiery throne of God; rejoice, O Virgin, royal seat, couch brightly spread, bridal chamber of gold and purple, robe of purple hue, beautiful temple, chariot of lightning, lamp of many lights; rejoice, O Theotokos, city of twelve walls, golden gate, bridal chamber of light, golden-shining table, God-adorned tabernacle; rejoice, glorious Bride, flashing sun; rejoice, thou the only enlightener of my soul.
Thou art my strength, O Lord, Thou art my power, Thou art my God, Thou art my joy, who didst not leave the bosom of the Father and didst visit our poverty; therefore with the prophet Habakkuk I cry to Thee: Glory to Thy power, O Lover of mankind.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
The grace of the divine Spirit came to dwell in thee in godly beauty with a tongue of fire, O Andrew; the Most High consumed what was lesser in thee by the radiance of the Godhead, and made thee a herald of things ineffable.

God, who for our sake became a divine mountain dropping down sweetness beyond all being, showed forth the all-glorious Andrew to bring to nothing the bitter mountains of demonic pride.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
Thou didst water the thirsty wilderness with thy divine words, O wise one, and didst show the children of the Church to be fruitful, bearing fruit from the seed of thy preaching. Glory to Him who gave thee the Spirit.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Let us sing, O ye people, the consubstantial Trinity in one Godhead — the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit — one in essence and one in nature, undivided, incomprehensible and immeasurable; for the Trinity is one in essence, and the Godhead is praised in Trinity, glorified in three Persons and three properties.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
We magnify thy mystery, O Theotokos, for He who is invisible to the heavenly powers came down upon thee as rain upon the fleece, for the salvation of us who praise thee.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Let us worship the Father with the Son and the life-giving Holy Spirit, God in three hypostases, one power, one kingdom; let us praise and cry aloud: O Holy Trinity, have mercy on us who rightly speak of Thee as God.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Thou didst give birth to the most radiant Light, O all-luminous lampstand of the Light, and thou becamest the dwelling that contained that bodiless Light, and a fountain of theology, enlightening the ends of the world with light, O Virgin.
The abyss of the waves hath encompassed us, and there is none to deliver us, and we are counted as sheep for the slaughter; but save Thy people, O Lord, for Thou art the hope and consolation of the despairing.

O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
Thou didst bear in thy heart the fire of love for Christ, O martyr of Christ, and didst cry to the godless: Your furnace is quenched, since Christ, the hope of the nations, hath appeared.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
Ye who season minds with the salt of Christ, ye have sweetened your food with heavenly doctrine and the sweetness of incorruption.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Let us worship the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, O ye people, praised in three Persons and known as one in essence; let us sing to the one in nature: Glory to Thee.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
In thee, O Theotokos, the forefathers of mankind rejoice, for through thee they have received again Eden, which was lost through disobedience; thou art Virgin before childbirth and after childbirth.
Priest: The small litany with its exclamation
Let us praise the namesake of courage, the divine speaker, the foremost of the Church, the kinsman of Peter; for as of old he cried to him, so now he crieth to us: Come, we have found the One who is desired.
Of old David rouses sinners such as I to tell forth the praise of God aright; yet again he guides us to faith and cries out with many tears: To-day if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts, as once they provoked Him at the waters; and in another psalm: Sing unto the Lord, all the earth; come, we have found the One who is desired.
Priest: Let us attend. Wisdom.
Prokeimenon of the Gospel: Their sound is gone out into all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.
Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork.
Priest: Let us pray to the Lord. For holy art Thou, O our God… Let everything that hath breath… And that He may make us worthy… Wisdom! Aright! Let us hear the holy Gospel…
At that time, Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him. And going on from thence, He saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed Him. And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Through the intercessions of the holy apostle Andrew the First-called, O Merciful One, blot out the multitude of our transgressions.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Merciful One, blot out the multitude of our transgressions.
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy compassions blot out my transgression, and have mercy on me, O God.
Let us praise in song today Andrew, the herald and faithful minister of Christ; for with wisdom he catches men out of the abyss and the deep, and, holding in his hands the wood of the Cross in place of a rod and the divine power in place of the cords of a net, the blessed one thus bravely draws souls up from the depths of ignorance and offers them as a royal gift before God. Him, O ye faithful, let us ever honour as is meet, together with the assembly of Christ’s disciples, that he may make God merciful to us on the day of judgement.
Priest: O God, save Thy people…

Thou didst receive from on high the fire of the Holy Spirit, O holy apostle, in new tongues which thou hadst never spoken, O worthy one; and thou wast commanded to tell His glory to the ends of the world in those many kinds of tongues.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Let us take up the hymn of the Trinity and glorify the Father and the Son and the upright Spirit, and cry aloud: Holy, holy, holy is the Holy Trinity, known as one in essence, undivided and unconfused, now and unto the ages.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
With the Father and the Spirit we hymn the Son, who took flesh of thee without change, O Virgin who didst contain God; for as thou wast, so thou abidest undefiled, O Mother who gavest birth to God made man.

Rejoice, throne of God, immaculate Virgin, our refuge, who didst make the bodiless Light shine forth, who enlightened them that sat in darkness; thee do we the faithful ever bless.
As an image of thy conception, O immaculate one, the bush burning with fire and not consumed was mystically foreshown; and now I pray thee: quench, O Theotokos, the flame of my sins, that I may magnify thee.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
As a beloved disciple, thou didst follow thy King, nailed of His own will to the Tree, even unto death; thou didst go up with joy to the height of the cross and madest straight thy steps toward heaven, O blessed apostle.
O holy apostle Andrew, pray to God for us.
Thou who didst spread the divine nets of mystical vision and catch the nations like fish, O all-holy apostle, entreat the Holy Trinity to grant us peace and mercy and that everlasting life.

For those who flee with faith beneath thy compassion and piously worship thy Son, entreat Him, as God and Lord of the world, that they may be delivered from corruption and from all temptations.
It is truly meet that we should magnify thee, O Theotokos, who art ever-blessed and all-immaculate and the Mother of our God. More honourable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who without corruption gavest birth to God the Word, the only Theotokos, we magnify in song.
The priest censes.
O first-called apostle, imitator of His sufferings, thou didst become like the Lord, O apostle Andrew; with the hook of thy cross thou didst draw up those who had strayed in the depth of ignorance and bring them to Him. Therefore we the faithful who are saved cry to thee: entreat the Good One to grant peace to our life and to save our souls.
Thou art enlightened with radiance beyond nature, O holy apostle Andrew; entreat Jesus, the Physician of our nature, to set us free from our countless transgressions.

This is our supplication, O holy apostle Andrew: that we may be counted worthy of the glory of the Kingdom in soul and body and, being saved, may glorify with thee the goodness of our God unto the ages.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for, at a loss for any defence, this supplication do we sinners offer unto Thee as Master: have mercy on us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
O Lord, have mercy on us, for we have put our trust in Thee; be not exceeding wroth with us, nor remember our iniquities; but look upon us now, as Thou art compassionate, and deliver us from Thy just wrath; for Thou art our God, and we are Thy people; we are all the work of Thy hands, and Thy name is called upon us; and have mercy on us.
Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

O preacher of the All-holy Trinity, enlightened by it in godly beauty, O holy apostle Andrew, entreat the Good One to grant all of us Orthodox that we may ever be well-pleasing to Him, advance in good living, be shown citizens of heaven and share with thee, dwell with the saints, abide with the righteous and sing with the angels; for to Him belongeth all glory, honour and worship, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
And the priest gives the dismissal with the commemoration of the holy apostle Andrew; and while his icon is kissed we sing this, Tone 8.
Beholding the desired God walking upon the earth in the flesh, O beholder of God and first-called, thou didst cry to thy brother by blood: Rejoice, O Simon, for we have found the desired Deliverer, foretold by David: ‘As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after Thee, O Christ God.’ Therefore thou didst add desire to desire, even death on the cross, which thou didst long for; and as a true disciple, O wise one, thou becamest truly an imitator of His Passion by the cross, and therefore also a partaker of His glory. Entreat with compunction for our souls.
O Lady, accept the supplication of thy servants and deliver us from every affliction and sorrow.
