Paraklesis to the Life-giving Pillar and the Robe of the Lord

Priest: Blessed is our God, always, now and ever and unto the ages of ages.

Amen.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, who art everywhere present and fillest all things, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O Good One.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, deliver us and release us from our sins; O Master, pardon our iniquities; O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name’s sake.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Priest: For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages.

Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (Twelve times)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O come, let us worship God our King. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King and God. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King and our God.

O Lord, attend to my prayer: hearken to my supplication in thy truth; hear me in thy righteousness. And enter not into judgment with thy servant, for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has brought my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in a dark place, as those that have been long dead. Therefore my spirit was grieved in me; my heart was troubled within me. I remembered the days of old; and I meditated on all thy doings: yea, I meditated on the works of thine hands. I spread forth my hands to thee; my soul thirsts for thee, as a dry land. Pause. Hear me speedily, O Lord; my spirit has failed; turn not away thy face from me, else I shall be like to them that go down to the pit. Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning; for I have hoped in thee; make known to me, O Lord, the way wherein I should walk; for I have lifted up my soul to thee. Deliver me from mine enemies, O Lord; for I have fled to thee for refuge. Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God; thy good Spirit shall guide me in the straight way. Thou shalt quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake; in thy righteousness thou shalt bring my soul out of affliction. And in thy mercy thou wilt destroy mine enemies, and wilt destroy all those that afflict my soul; for I am thy servant.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O God; alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O God; alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O our God, glory to Thee.

God is the Lord and hath appeared unto us; blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord. God is the Lord and hath appeared unto us; blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.

O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever. God is the Lord and hath appeared unto us; blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.

All the nations compassed me about, and in the name of the Lord I withstood them. God is the Lord and hath appeared unto us; blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.

I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. God is the Lord and hath appeared unto us; blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.

The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner; this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes.

Troparion: The feast of the Catholic Church, of the holy Pillar and the Robe of the Lord, gathereth the ends of the world with light and poureth forth holy myrrh for us as food, who venerate the holy Theotokos and Christ born of her, that we may find life for our souls.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

The feast of the Catholic Church, of the holy Pillar and the Robe of the Lord, gathereth the ends of the world with light and poureth forth holy myrrh for us as food, who venerate the holy Theotokos and Christ born of her, that we may find life for our souls.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The feast of the Catholic Church, of the holy Pillar and the Robe of the Lord, gathereth the ends of the world with light and poureth forth holy myrrh for us as food, who venerate the holy Theotokos and Christ born of her, that we may find life for our souls.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of thy compassions blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I am conscious of mine iniquity; and my sin is continually before me. Against thee only have I sinned, and done evil before thee: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. For, behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me. For, behold, thou lovest truth: thou hast manifested to me the secret and hidden things of thy wisdom. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be purified: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. Thou shalt cause me to hear gladness and joy: the afflicted bones shall rejoice. Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in my inward parts. Cast me not away from thy presence; and remove not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation: establish me with thy directing Spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and ungodly men shall turn to thee. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation: and my tongue shall joyfully declare thy righteousness. O Lord, thou shalt open my lips; and my mouth shall declare thy praise. For if thou desiredst sacrifice, I would have given it: thou wilt not take pleasure in whole-burnt-offerings. Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit: a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, to Sion in thy good pleasure; and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then shalt thou be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, offering, and whole-burnt-sacrifices: then shall they offer calves upon thine altar.

The impassable sea, which of old became firm land at Thy command, O ineffable God, received the people of Israel, who made ready for Thee the hymn of victory.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

Open my mouth and fill it with grace, that I may utter a fitting and worthy word, O only-begotten Word of the Father, in praise of Thy throne and of the living Pillar.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

Gather today, ye assemblies of the faithful peoples, and let us sing with praises this feast of the all-radiant, holy and blessed Pillar, the all-illumined feast through which our salvation came to pass.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

O all-holy Pillar, light and radiance and sun that never setteth, who shinest in the soul and mind of the faithful, who confess thee as their hope and venerate thee with faith.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The golden censer, the jar of manna and the rod of Aaron foretold thee, and the ark of the divine words was a figure of thee, O Mother of God.

Irmos: Be compassionate by nature, O Deliverer, to our weak nature, which Thou didst put on and strengthen by Thy Godhead; we cry: There is none holy as Thou, O Lover of mankind.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

The cathedral that imitateth heaven, which holdeth the Pillar in the midst of its womb as a breast and ungrudgingly poureth forth for us holy myrrh like milk, let us sing to it and praise it.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

O radiant Pillar and light, wall about with thy light thy children, who stand around thee and sing the hymn and praise of divine beauty.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Behold the blessed tower, surrounded by light and unveiled radiance, not wrought of matter, but made wisely and in divine beauty by the Son of God.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O Mother and Virgin, Light of Light, thou likeness of the Pillar and thyself called a pillar, whom the Cherubim magnify with fear, and we with them sing to thee with trembling and praise thee unceasingly.

Look upon us, O all-radiant Pillar, and heal the evil wounds of our bodies and the sicknesses of our soul.

Deliver thy servants from dangers, O most holy Virgin Theotokos, for after God we all flee unto thee, as to an unbreakable wall and protection.

Priest: Have mercy on us, O God, according to Thy great mercy, we pray Thee, O Lover of mankind, hearken and have mercy.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Again we pray for our God-protected people, its authorities and its armed forces.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Again we pray for the Most Holy and Most Blessed Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia and Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, our father Ilia.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Again we pray for the most reverend metropolitans, archbishops and bishops, for the honourable priests, for the deacons in Christ and for the monastic orders.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Again let us pray to the Lord our God that He may have mercy on His servants and handmaids (names). Multiply, O Lord, the days and years of their life, and deliver them, O Lord, from every affliction, wrath and distress, and from every wound of soul and body, and forgive them every transgression, voluntary and involuntary.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Again we pray for all the brethren and for all Orthodox Christians.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

For Thou art a merciful God who lovest mankind, and unto Thee we send up glory, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages.

Amen.

The joy and glory of all the world hath come, for the holy Catholic Church gladdeneth her children and maketh ready the feast of the Life-giving Pillar, and generously distributeth holy myrrh to all, and feasteth with the food of immortality those who hold firm and unshaken hope and faith, that through its intercession God may grant great mercy to our souls.

Irmos: When the Church beheld Thee, the Sun of righteousness, lifted up upon the Cross, she stood in her rank and cried out worthily: Glory to Thy power, O Lord.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

That blessed mother, to whom Christ God granted apostleship, was made worthy of the wondrous ascent of the invisible Pillar and of its descent again.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

O blessed Pillar, strangely beheld by the holy woman, raised into the air of heaven and by the mercy of God come down again to abide with us!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

O Lady, holy Mother of God, proclaimed as the all-radiant Pillar of light and foretold by the holy fathers and prophets, be our intercessor.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O unwedded Virgin, after giving birth thou wast found still remaining a virgin; therefore with faith we confess thee as Theotokos with unceasing lips.

Irmos: Thou, O Lord, art the Light that came into the world, enlightening the hearts of Thy faithful, who worship Thee.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

Thou art the Pillar of light from lights, which flashed like lightning at the Jordan and on Tabor, bearing witness to the Son of God.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

As thine image, O Virgin, Pillar of light, God whom thou didst carry hath revealed the Pillar of light; therefore we venerate thee together with Him.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Thou art light and ineffable radiance, surpassing the firmament and the sun, O living Pillar: keep those who venerate thee.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Thou art a weapon, O invincible Theotokos; in the battle against our enemies keep unshaken those who trust in Him who was born of thee.

Irmos: I have fallen into the depth of the sea, and the abysses of sins have swallowed me up; but, as Thou art God, bring up my life again from corruption, O Merciful One.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

The ancient laws of our fathers and the idols of the altars were wondrously exchanged for us, and in their stead we have the holy cathedral, the myrrh and the Life-giving Pillar as our hope.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

O this divine exchange: the cathedral in place of Armazi, myrrh in place of idols, and in place of the altars the Son of God hath granted us the holy Life-giving Pillar.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Thou who didst reach from earth to heaven and dwellest in heaven, yet art ever with us, O living Pillar, holy Lady, intercede for those who hope in thee.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Thy womb, O Theotokos, became incomprehensibly the container of the uncontainable Godhead, on whom the ranks of the bodiless dare not look with their eyes.

Look upon us, O all-radiant Pillar, and heal the evil wounds of our bodies and the sicknesses of our soul.

Deliver thy servants from dangers, O most holy Virgin Theotokos, for after God we all flee unto thee, as to an unbreakable wall and protection.

Priest: Lord, have mercy.

Help us, save us, have mercy on us and keep us, O God, by Thy grace.

Lord, have mercy.

Calling to remembrance our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed and glorious Lady Theotokos and ever-Virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and all our life unto Christ our God.

To Thee, O Lord.

For Thou art the King of peace and the Saviour of our souls, and unto Thee we send up glory, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen!

O champion and invincible helper, holy and God-radiant Pillar, who shinest over the Lord’s robe woven from above and flashest like lightning upon the cathedral that imitateth heaven, who adornest and makest bright with songs those who keep thy feast and grantest twofold joys to those who offer thee praise: Rejoice, O Life-giving Pillar.

Wisdom.

Prokeimenon, a Psalm of David

Tone 1.

He spake unto them in the pillar of the cloud; they kept His testimonies and the ordinances that He gave them.

Verse: The Lord is great in Zion, and high.

Let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

Priest: For holy art Thou, O our God, who restest in the saints, and unto Thee we send up glory, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages.

Amen.

Priest: Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord.

Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord.

Praise God in His saints; praise Him in the firmament of His power.

Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord.

Let everything that hath breath…

…praise the Lord.

And that He may make us worthy to hear the holy Gospel, let us pray to the Lord our God.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Wisdom! Aright! Let us hear the holy Gospel.

Peace be unto all.

And to thy spirit.

The reading from the holy Gospel according to John

Glory to Thee, O Lord, glory to Thee.

At that time there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: the same came to Jesus by night, and said unto Him, Rabbi, we know that Thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that Thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto Him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again… In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on Me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified… Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also His coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted My raiment among them, and for My vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

Glory to Thee, O Lord, glory to Thee.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Through the intercessions of the holy virgin Nino, equal to the apostles, and by the grace of the radiant Pillar, O Merciful One, blot out the multitude of our transgressions.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Merciful One, blot out the multitude of our transgressions.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy compassions blot out our transgressions, and have mercy on us, O God.

The chiefs of the angels today rejoice radiantly together with those on earth and with sweet voice sing the glory and praise of that holy Pillar and of the blessed and all-praised feast, through which our deliverance came to pass.

Priest: O God, save Thy people and bless Thine inheritance; visit Thy world with mercy and compassion; exalt the horn of Orthodox Christians and send down upon us Thy rich mercies; may Christ our true God, who rose from the dead, through the intercessions of our all-incorrupt Lady Theotokos and ever-Virgin Mary, by the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, of the Cross of Nino and the Cross of Mtskheta, of the Robe of the Lord woven from above and of the God-radiant, myrrh-streaming Life-giving Pillar; through the protection of the honourable bodiless Powers of heaven; of the honourable and glorious Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John; of the holy great prophet Elijah the Tishbite; of the holy, glorious and all-praised apostles; of the holy apostles Andrew the First-called, Simon the Canaanite, Bartholomew and Thaddeus, and of the holy virgin Nino, equal to the apostles, enlightener of the Georgians; of King Mirian and Queen Nana; of our fathers among the saints, the great ecumenical teachers and hierarchs Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom; of our holy father Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, the wonderworker; and of our fathers among the saints, the patriarchs Peter, Samuel, Sarmean, Father Arsenius, Melchizedek, John Okropiri, Nicholas, Eudemius, Joseph, Kirion and Ambrose, and the hierarchs Ise of Tsilkani, Abibus of Nekresi, Joseph of Alaverdi, Neophytus of Urbnisi, Saba of Ishkhani and John Guteli; of the holy, glorious and victorious martyrs: the holy great-martyr George the Trophy-bearer and our holy martyrs Razhden, Eustathius of Mtskheta, Abo of Tbilisi, Gobron, Christopher the Gurian, Nicholas Dvali, Cosmas, Prochorus the Georgian, the eristavis Constantine, Shalva, Bidzina and Elizbar, the princes of Argveti David and Constantine, and Prince Constantine, and the victorious kings and queens Mirdat, Ashot, Archil, Demetrius, Luarsab, Shushanik and Ketevan, and the pious Queen Dinara; of our holy, pious and great kings Vakhtang Gorgasali, David the Builder, Demetrius-Damian and Tamar; of the venerable and God-bearing ecumenical fathers and our venerable fathers John of Zedazeni, Anthony of Martkopi, Shio of Mghvime, David of Gareja, Thaddeus of Stepantsminda, Pyrrhus of Breti, Zenon of Ikalto, Michael of Ulumbo, Isidore of Samtavisi, Stephen of Khirsa, Gregory of Khandzta, Zenon of Samtskhe, Hilarion the Georgian, Serapion of Zarzma, and Gabriel, John, Euthymius, John-Tornike and George of the Holy Mountain; of Ephrem the Lesser and Arsenius of Ikalto; of John Chimchimeli, Abiathar the priest and Sidonia; of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna and of all Thy saints: we entreat Thee, O most merciful God, hearken to the supplication of us sinners, and have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy. (Twelve times)

Priest: Through the mercies and compassions and love for mankind of Thine Only-begotten Son, with whom Thou art blessed, together with Thine all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages.

Amen.

Irmos: The Abrahamic youths in the furnace, bound by the magi, were cast in for the sake of the divine laws, and in the flame they cried out:

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

We who of old were going into the furnace of hades, delivered by His mercies, let us cry out and say: Blessed art Thou, O Lord, the God of our fathers.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

Of old at the altar of Armazi children were slaughtered and wept; but now before the Pillar they are baptised in the font and cry out: Blessed art Thou, O Lord, the God of our fathers.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

The fire that cooled the youths in Babylon like water gave them light in the likeness of the Pillar, and with an unharmed spirit they said: O God, blessed art Thou.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos, all-immaculate, O Pillar, our firmness, who like lightning enlightenest our soul, heart and mind.

Irmos: O Saviour of all, mighty God, Thou didst deliver the youths cast into the fire when they cried from the furnace: Bless the Lord, ye works of the Lord.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

O Saviour of all, mighty God, we praise and magnify Thee, who hast made us worthy to attain this holy feast and to gladden our souls and minds.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

Rejoice, O Pillar, for thou guardest bodies from trials and makest known the light of the soul through the font and the myrrh, and we venerate thee unceasingly.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Rejoice, O Pillar, for like lightning thou shinest between heaven and earth, and by love thou bindest together and unitest things heavenly and earthly.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The people of the faithful worship with faith God the Trinity in right confession today, and thus they cry out and say: Bless the Lord, ye servants of the Lord; sing and supremely exalt Him unto the ages.

Irmos: The cornerstone was cut out without hands from thee, O Virgin, the unhewn mountain, even Christ, who united the natures; therefore with joy we the faithful worthily magnify thee.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

The stone of light, hung in the air without hands, standeth invisibly, and angels with men sing unceasingly: Glory to the Pillar, our hope.

O Pillar of light, radiantly enlightened, enlighten those who entreat thee in song.

O dwelling, holy house of the glory of God, O the great splendour of thy holiness, for with thee the Pillar gladdeneth us, thy children, and together ye shelter us!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

O our Pillar and Light, Mother of the Son of God, who didst nurse God Jesus at thy breasts, so likewise through the Pillar thou givest us too to taste of the myrrh.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

With faith we confess thee as the Mother of our God, O worthy one, and proclaim thee a holy Virgin; entreat Christ thy Son for us, that He may deliver from the enemy those who magnify thee.

It is truly meet that we should magnify thee, O Theotokos, who art ever-blessed and all-immaculate and the Mother of our God. More honourable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who without corruption gavest birth to God the Word, the only Theotokos, we magnify in song.

Today the holy and all-praised feast of the Life-giving Pillar hath appeared radiantly to us, through which we taste the fountain of sweetness that saveth souls, the myrrh that maketh immortal and deifieth, announcing to us the kingdom to come and the delight of unwaning love.

Come to us, all ye peoples clothed with light, children of the Cathedral Church, who have received the seal of baptism, and rejoice and sing to one another; for she keepeth the feast and gladdeneth together her children, born anew in the font of immortality.

Joy is come, life is come now, the enlightenment of all the world is come; for the Bride of Christ God, the holy and divinely radiant Cathedral Church, prepareth for us a marriage not of the flesh but heavenly and immortal, and an everlasting delight in which we may rejoice.

Today the Son of God prepareth a most radiant, blessed and wondrous joy for His Bride, the Church, who holdeth in her womb the Life-giving Pillar as a holy lamp; it flasheth like lightning and shineth upon all the world and gladdeneth the ends of the earth; and we, the children of the Church, together with the powers of heaven cry out and say: Through the intercession of the holy Theotokos and of the Life-giving Pillar, O God, save us.

Amen.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for, at a loss for any defence, this supplication do we sinners offer unto Thee as Master: have mercy on us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

O Lord, have mercy on us, for we have put our trust in Thee; be not exceeding wroth with us, nor remember our iniquities; but look upon us now, as Thou art compassionate, and deliver us from Thy just wrath; for Thou art our God, and we are Thy people; we are all the work of Thy hands, and Thy name is called upon us; and have mercy on us.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Open unto us the doors of compassion, O blessed Theotokos, that hoping in thee we may not perish, but through thee be delivered from our adversaries, for thou art the salvation of the Christian race.

Priest: Have mercy on us, O God, according to Thy great mercy, we pray Thee, O Lover of mankind, hearken and have mercy.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Again I pray for mercy, life, peace, health, long life, quiet, enlightenment, salvation, help, pardon and remission of sins for Thy servants and handmaids (names), that the Lord our God may preserve this royal city and all the cities and villages from famine, pestilence, earthquake, flood, fire, the sword, the invasion of foreigners, civil war and deadly plague; that God may be merciful to us so that we may stand well, in His goodness and love for mankind, and may turn away the wrath that daily cometh upon us, and deliver us from His righteous judgement that is laid upon us, and have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy. (40 times)

Hear us, O God our Saviour, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of them that are far off upon the seas and in the air; and be gracious, be merciful, O Master, unto our sins, and have mercy on us;

for Thou art a merciful God who lovest mankind, and unto Thee we send up glory, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Priest: Again and again, on bended knees, let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

O all-holy radiant Pillar, suspended in the air by the hands of angels and archangels, boast of all Georgia, helper of the helpless, hope of the hopeless, refuge of the poor, comforter of the sorrowful, nourisher of the hungry, clothing of the naked, physician of the sick, salvation of sinners, and helper and refuge of all Georgians! O all-radiant holy Pillar, bright with divine light, with thy shelter and grace cover our God-protected people, the Most Holy and Most Blessed Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia and Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, the great lord, our father Ilia, and all the priestly and monastic ranks, all the Christ-loving armed forces, our benefactors and all Orthodox Christians; cover us with thy grace, we entreat thee, O treasury of the priceless Robe of Christ our God. Gird us with victory from thee over the enemy visible and invisible. O all-radiant holy Pillar, by thy grace bring us up from the pit of the abyss of our sins, and deliver us from famine, pestilence, earthquake, fire, the sword, the invasion of foreigners and civil war, from sudden death, from the wind, from every deadly plague and from every evil; grant, O all-radiant Pillar and Robe of the Lord, peace and health to these servants, Orthodox Christians, and enlighten our minds and the eyes of our hearts, that we may be saved, and that these sinful servants may be made worthy of the kingdom of Christ our God, for His dominion is blessed and glorified, with His unoriginate Father and His all-holy and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Priest: Wisdom.

O most holy Theotokos, save us.

More honourable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who without corruption gavest birth to God the Word, the only Theotokos, we magnify in song.

Glory to Thee, O Christ God, our hope, glory to Thee.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages.

Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

In the name of the Lord, Most Holy and Most Blessed Master, bless.

May Christ our true God, who rose from the dead, through the intercessions of our all-incorrupt Lady Theotokos and ever-Virgin Mary, by the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, of the Cross of Nino and the Cross of Mtskheta, of the Robe of the Lord woven from above and of the God-radiant, myrrh-streaming Life-giving Pillar; through the protection of the honourable bodiless Powers of heaven, of the honourable and glorious Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John, of the holy great prophet Elijah the Tishbite, of the holy, glorious and all-praised apostles, of holy Nino, equal to the apostles, enlightener of the Georgians, of the hierarchs, the martyrs, our venerable and God-bearing fathers, and the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, for He is good and loveth mankind.

Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)
