Akathist to the Most Holy Trinity

Through the prayers of our holy fathers, O Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, who art everywhere present and fillest all things with Thy grace, Treasury of good things and Giver of life: come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O Good One. *

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, deliver us and release us from our sins; O Master, pardon our iniquities; O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name’s sake.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (Twelve times)

O come, let us worship God our King. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King and God. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King and our God.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of thy compassions blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I am conscious of mine iniquity; and my sin is continually before me. Against thee only have I sinned, and done evil before thee: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. For, behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me. For, behold, thou lovest truth: thou hast manifested to me the secret and hidden things of thy wisdom. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be purified: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. Thou shalt cause me to hear gladness and joy: the afflicted bones shall rejoice. Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in my inward parts. Cast me not away from thy presence; and remove not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation: establish me with thy directing Spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and ungodly men shall turn to thee. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation: and my tongue shall joyfully declare thy righteousness. O Lord, thou shalt open my lips; and my mouth shall declare thy praise. For if thou desiredst sacrifice, I would have given it: thou wilt not take pleasure in whole-burnt-offerings. Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit: a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, to Sion in thy good pleasure; and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then shalt thou be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, offering, and whole-burnt-sacrifices: then shall they offer calves upon thine altar.

To Him who brought all things from non-being into being and is the Creator of all, whom the Cherubim and Seraphim glorify with God-inspired hymns, let us also, O Christians, moved towards the Creator by an unfailing hope and called to the image and likeness of the all-good King, cry out this hymn: O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

Foretold by the prophets and in these last times made manifest on earth by Thy boundless grace, we who were brought up in sins and broken by the passions flee to Thee thus:

O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us; O all-holy Trinity, save us; O all-holy Trinity, raise up the fallen; O holy Trinity, lift up those in despair; O holy Trinity, cleanse the penitent; O holy Trinity, justify those who have sinned; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

Behold, Christ cometh up from the Jordan and teacheth us to worship the Trinity; let us delight in its radiance with joy, O ye faithful: Alleluia.

O Trinity in three Persons and one in essence, perfect and unfailing, above every mind and restorer of every image, we who love Thine unapproachable light cry to Thee thus:

O all-holy Trinity, nurture us; O all-holy Trinity, give us life; O all-holy Trinity, heal the infirmities of our souls and bodies; O Trinity one in essence, grant us watchfulness; O life-giving Trinity, make the plants of our soul to blossom; O holy Trinity, sweeten those who fall down before Thee; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

To the Father who begetteth, the Son who is begotten and the Spirit who proceedeth from the Father, the Trinity one in essence, distinct in Persons and undivided in essence, without beginning and Lawgiver of all beginning, let us, beholders of the divine dispensation, offer an everlasting hymn, O people of God: Alleluia.

O Thou who exposest all heretics, joyful life of those who hope in Thee, we who in this age that draweth to evening rise early each day with right confession of Thee sing to Thee thus:

O all-holy Trinity, enlighten our senses; O all-holy Trinity, raise us up to praise Thee; O Trinity one in essence, make straight our crooked paths; O life-giving Trinity, make us Thy servants and sons of light; O holy Trinity, lift us up like the cedars of Lebanon; O all-holy Trinity, be merciful to our sins; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

O almighty Father, as the prophet David saith, we who in Thy light see light, and by this vision are raised to heaven and blossom, cry to Thee in prayer: Alleluia.

O Thou who layest waste the devices of Belial and overthrowest the deceiving idols, whose spiritual cluster Christians now gather on earth, we glorify Thee with fear and trembling, our incomprehensible and ineffable Creator, known through Thy creatures, thus:

O all-holy Trinity, loose the stammering of those who cry to Thee; O all-holy Trinity, keep Thy people; O all-holy Trinity, strengthen the clergy; O holy Trinity, exalt the horn of Orthodox Christians; O holy Trinity, grant us seasonable weather; O holy Trinity, make us worthy of a Christian and peaceful end; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

O Seeker of Thy strayed and lost sheep, who didst not forsake us sinners but didst send Thy Son for our salvation, we who have received Thy benefits through Thy loving dispensation and confess repentance cry to Thee with a tearful heart: Alleluia.

O uncreated Nature known in three Persons, O simple and uncompounded Trinity, receive into Thine endless goodness those who cry to Thee thus:

O all-holy Trinity, bless the crown of the year; O all-holy Trinity, multiply those who serve Thee around Thy table; O all-holy Trinity, make our children flourish like young olive shoots; O holy Trinity, make this age that draweth to evening bright with Thy light; O unsetting Light, dispel the darkness of our minds; O Trinity one in essence, nail us to Thy fear; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

Thou whom the powers of heaven serve without ceasing and glorify with everlasting praise, with them we too cry to Thee the thrice-holy hymn: Holy, holy, holy art Thou, O our God; have mercy on us who hope in Thee: Alleluia.

That child who in prayer gathered the honey of the Holy Spirit was caught up to heaven and, having seen the angels rejoicing before God, enlightened our minds and opened our lips to sing to the Trinity thus:

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us; O all-holy Trinity, give us wings for the heavens; O life-giving Trinity, set free the captives; O all-good King, loose those bound by sins; O holy Trinity, look down from heaven and come for our salvation; O Treasury of good things, fill up again the emptied treasuries of our minds; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

O one Godhead and one Power, whose is the kingdom unto ages of ages, let our songs, laid on the censer of the angels, be music to Thee: Alleluia.

O Thou who loosest from the bonds of the mind those who glorify Thee and settest free those who hasten to Thee by a heavenly way of life, who enlightenest our senses and by that enlightenment ineffably givest us life, we sing to Thee thus:

O Giver of life, bring up the young in Thy divine truth; O Lord of lords, seal the purity of women; O perfect Trinity, perfect the good works of fathers; O Trinity one in essence, clothe the honourable priests with Thy light; O all-holy Trinity, grant us understanding of Thy divine good things; O Cause of mercy, accept these pitiful supplications of ours; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

O simple, perfect and uncircumscribed One, who bringest up Thy sheep from the pits and savest them, offering back to Thee the words Thou hast given, we cry to Thee, our Creator, thus: Alleluia.

O Thou who didst make fishermen wise with divine knowledge and dost give life by Thy Spirit to those born of water, together with the apostles and evangelists, the theologians, we cry to Thee with one voice thus:

O all-holy Trinity, deliver us from insatiable hell; O all-holy Trinity, bring to nothing the venom of the heretics; O holy Trinity, put the godless to shame; O life-giving Trinity, instruct us with teaching and give us not over to death; O all-good King, look upon this Thy vineyard and establish it, which Thy right hand hath planted; O Cause of every good, set us free; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

O Thou who didst order all creatures well, Artist wondrous beyond all, accept now our wonder and joy also, we who were brought forth in the beauty of the world: Alleluia.

Let us, O lovers of God, glorify unceasingly God the Word, incarnate of the Virgin, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, in this age and there in that eternal rest, thus:

O King of all, kindle the extinguished lamps of our soul; O Sun of righteousness, warm us with Thy warmth; O unfailing Sweetness, bring those who hope in Thee near to that first image; O all-holy Trinity, call us up from the places of death; O one Trinity, arm us with Thine invincible power; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

O unfailing hope, who givest wings to our souls, by whose help we who repent partake of the heavenly birthright, with tears and confession we fall down before Thee, crying: Alleluia.

O Trinity of one authority and one dominion, unchanging and unalterable, heal the sicknesses of our souls and bodies and fill up again the emptied treasuries of our minds, that we may magnify Thee:

O all-holy Trinity, heal us; O all-holy Trinity, be not angry with us; O holy Trinity, remember not the sins of our youth and ignorance; O life-giving Trinity, create a clean heart within us; O holy Trinity, renew a right spirit within us; O all-good Nature, grant us eternal life with the righteous; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

Before Him who is above every nature and ruleth all, whom all the powers of heaven, earth and the nether world obey, let us fall down with a broken heart, O Christians: Alleluia.

O holy Trinity, one in essence, life-giving and undivided, we who are lifted up by the fragrance of the ministries Thou hast granted speak thus to Thee, the incomprehensible and ineffable, the unsearchable and unknowable:

O all-holy Trinity, order what is best for our souls; O inexhaustible sea of long-suffering, reward us not according to our iniquities; O Nourisher of all, multiply those who praise Thee; O Creator and Comforter, establish our life in peace; O Shelter of the departed, give rest to our fathers and brethren who have fallen asleep before us and to all who have died in Orthodoxy; O Thou who takest away all mourning and grief, comfort the hopeless and the sorrowful; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

He who redeemed us by His precious blood and nailed our sins to the Cross, He also taught us to worship the Trinity for our salvation: Alleluia.

O Comforter of those created and invincible Helper of those yet to be created, raise us up every day to praise and sing Thine all-holy name, as we cry thus:

O all-holy Trinity, strengthen us; O all-holy Trinity, put to shame those who afflict us; O Guide of Thy rational sheep, direct the work of our hands; O Father, Creator of all, accept the voices of those who labour well for Thee; O Lord, only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, remember Thy Church; O Holy Spirit, life-giving Comforter, open our lips to glorify Thee; O all-holy Trinity, have mercy on us and save us!

O life-giving Trinity, good Nourisher of every breath, cleanse us from our secret faults, that, loosed from the bonds of sin by Thine unfailing grace and having reached the kingdom, we may there also rise up to praise Thy kingship, singing on wings thus: Alleluia.

This kontakion thrice. Then the first ikos, “Foretold by the prophets…”, and the first kontakion, “To Him who brought all things from non-being into being…”

O Trinity one in essence and three in Persons, uncreated Nature, one Godhead and one Power, almighty Father, only-begotten Son and Holy Spirit, undivided in essence and distinct in Persons, whom all the powers of heaven, earth and the nether world obey, at whose fear the mountains quake and the ends of the earth tremble! Accept this small hymn offered by Thine unworthy servants, and in Thy great mercy save our God-protected people and its kingdom. Strengthen in his ministry the Most Holy and Most Blessed Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta and Tbilisi and Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, our great lord and father Ilia, the most reverend metropolitans, archbishops and bishops, the honourable priests, the deacons in Christ, the monastic orders and all Orthodox Christians.

O Thou who art above every mind, perfect Trinity, incomprehensible and ineffable, who didst not disregard the lost sheep but in Thy goodness didst seek it out, and when it had fallen through many sins didst raise it up again through the incarnation of the Word of the Father, who filled His disciples with the Holy Spirit and gave life to this earth parched by sins: direct our steps according to Thy commandments, and open with Thine unsetting light the eyes of our minds, blinded by the pleasures of the flesh, that, taught by Thine indestructible word and living by it every day, we may magnify with unceasing praise Thee, our God without beginning and uncircumscribed, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

It is truly meet that we should magnify thee, O Theotokos, who art ever-blessed and all-immaculate and the Mother of our God. Thee, more honourable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who without corruption gavest birth to God the Word, the only Theotokos, we magnify in song.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Thy most pure Mother, of our venerable and God-bearing fathers and of all Thy saints, have mercy on us. Amen.
