Akathist Hymn to Our Venerable Father Sergius of Radonezh

Saint Sergius of Radonezh is prayed to for deliverance from enemies visible and invisible, from captivity, and from the devices of demons and evil spirits, and also for the opening of the minds of children and for understanding in learning.

Through the prayers of our holy fathers, O Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us. Amen.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, who art everywhere present and fillest all things with Thy grace, Treasury of good things and Giver of life: come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O Good One.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, deliver us and release us from our sins; O Master, pardon our iniquities; O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name’s sake.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Priest: For Thine is the kingdom…

Lord, have mercy. (Twelve times)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O come, let us worship God our King. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King and God. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King and our God.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of thy compassions blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I am conscious of mine iniquity; and my sin is continually before me. Against thee only have I sinned, and done evil before thee: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. For, behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me. For, behold, thou lovest truth: thou hast manifested to me the secret and hidden things of thy wisdom. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be purified: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. Thou shalt cause me to hear gladness and joy: the afflicted bones shall rejoice. Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in my inward parts. Cast me not away from thy presence; and remove not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation: establish me with thy directing Spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and ungodly men shall turn to thee. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation: and my tongue shall joyfully declare thy righteousness. O Lord, thou shalt open my lips; and my mouth shall declare thy praise. For if thou desiredst sacrifice, I would have given it: thou wilt not take pleasure in whole-burnt-offerings. Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit: a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, to Sion in thy good pleasure; and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then shalt thou be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, offering, and whole-burnt-sacrifices: then shall they offer calves upon thine altar.

To thee, the steadfastness of the Orthodox given from heaven and pillar of the wilderness, well-pleasing to the All-Holy Trinity, imitator and fellow-ascetic of the angels, we sing with praises and fervently draw near to thy protection; and do thou, as one who hath great boldness, entreat the good God that by thine intercession He may heal us and deliver us from all passions and from the treacheries of the enemy, that, kept unharmed, we may say according to our strength: Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

The Creator of the angels foreknew thee in thy mother’s womb, God-beloved Sergius, and set thee apart for Himself from thy birth; and thou from infancy didst love humility and reverence, whereby thou didst rise to the height of the kingdom and receive in heaven a crown of glory; now look upon us with sweetness and deliver us from a faith that is not living and is lukewarm, that we may be stirred to imitate thy divine deeds and be eager to fulfil them, who unceasingly magnify thee:

Rejoice, thou who wast called by the Holy Spirit as a courageous warrior of Christ; rejoice, thou who wast sent as shepherd and champion of thy people; rejoice, thou who like Samuel the prophet wast offered to the Lord from thy mother’s womb; rejoice, fruitful branch sprung from pious roots; rejoice, lamp kindled by the grace of the Holy Spirit; rejoice, God-radiant shoot that didst grow up as fruit of immortality and a plant of ascetic struggle; rejoice, thou who art full of sweetness and wast shown forth in good reverence; rejoice, thou who art adorned with divine humility; rejoice, beholder of inward and hidden passions; rejoice, thou who with purified spirit didst offer to Christ thy spotless life as a holy sacrifice; rejoice, thou who like Abel wast justified and didst reach from earth to heaven; rejoice, thou who shinest with incorrupt relics; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

Before thy birth thy parents and the gathering of the faithful learned of the fragrance of thy graces, for at the time of the Liturgy they heard thy threefold cry, and all understood that Christ God had given thee in thy mother’s womb the gift of magnifying the All-Holy Trinity; and when they saw thy joyful birth, O blessed Sergius, they offered a hymn of thanksgiving to God the Wonderworker: Alleluia.

From the beginning of thy childhood thou didst nail thy flesh with the fear of the Lord, God-loving Sergius, but thy mind could not understand the divine Scriptures, and thou wast grieved, thirsting for learning; but thou didst gain the gifts of understanding by fervent prayer, and by the blessing of a God-wise elder thou wast made wise to know the power of the Holy Scriptures; and by the light of ascetic struggle thou didst receive, as a reward, the gift of the grace of opening the mind and giving understanding to children; therefore I entreat thee, O venerable one, give me a word of wisdom, that I may call thee blessed:

Rejoice, thou who from infancy didst show forth the fasting life; rejoice, wondrous child, who on Wednesdays and Fridays didst refuse thy mother’s milk; rejoice, thou who wast brought up in holiness and filled beyond comprehension with spiritual wisdom; rejoice, thou who wast well armed by the power of God; rejoice, thou who wast made wise above orators by teaching from on high; rejoice, thou who wast enlightened by the radiance of divine graces; rejoice, thou who didst shine with a virtuous life; rejoice, thou who wast instructed by God-inspired books; rejoice, thou who wast enriched with the grace of foreknowledge; rejoice, thou who wast magnified by the Lord with many miracles; rejoice, thou who wast called father and guide of many fathers; rejoice, thou who wast armed with the unerring courage of ascetic struggle; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

Desiring the salvation of thy soul, thou didst gain love, humility and meekness, prayer and vigil, and firm faith with hope, together with the whole choir of the virtues, and didst rise to the summit of perfection; so now brighten our sorrowful life with firm hope and shelter us from falling into sin, that we may swiftly awake, and, like the Ninevites, be made worthy of repentance, singing: Alleluia.

Thou didst become an imitator of the life of the Tishbite and didst not spare thy youthful age, but with thy brother didst settle in the remote wilderness of Radonezh and take up a struggle most hard and harsh; but thy brother Stephen went back to a monastery, while thou didst not return to the world, O blessed Sergius, but by fasting and toil didst put the passions to death and count as nothing the opposition of the evil ones; so now grant us victory also over the invisible enemies and the powers of darkness, that we may find rest and unfading delight, who magnify thee with praises:

Rejoice, thou who from thy youth didst zealously guard the purity of soul and body; rejoice, keeper of the nobility of the soul; rejoice, thou who by unceasing prayer and psalmody didst quench the temptations of the devil and his fierce snares; rejoice, thou who with toil of body didst courageously endure the frost of winter and the cold of night; rejoice, mighty crusher of all evil habits and vices; rejoice, overthrower of the insolence of the fighters against God; rejoice, planter of the holy life; rejoice, teacher of reverence and good morals; rejoice, deliverer of innocent youths and maidens from all filth and vice; rejoice, protector from utterly destroying passions and from shamelessness; rejoice, banisher of the darkness of folly; rejoice, thou who washest away the stain of superstition; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

As is his wont, the devil was kindled to make war on thee; but thou, courageous warrior of Christ, didst put on with courage the mail of faith, and, taking up the sign of the Cross as a weapon, didst cut down the snare of the devil with the sword of toil, and didst burn up their camps like fire in the furnace of thy prayers; therefore the Lord gave thee power over evil spirits, and thou didst drive them out, and those whom they tormented were set free and with joy glorified the power of Christ: Alleluia.

Thou didst lay a firm foundation for those who long for the divine life and becamest an example of good for thy countrymen, for that wilderness, the lair of beasts and dwelling of demons, thou didst change into a dwelling of men, and didst build a wooden church to the glory of the All-Holy Trinity; and boundless mercy, surpassing sweetness and humility were thy guides on the true way, and thou becamest a father of orphans and food of the hungry, clothing of the naked and the helpless; so now also thou savest wondrously and deliverest from famine and trials those who extol thee:

Rejoice, thou who spreadest grace-given joy in God-loving hearts; rejoice, thou who art sweet and humble to the obedient and admonishest the unrepentant; rejoice, thou who by courage of soul givest an example to the faint-hearted and the enfeebled; rejoice, star that showest the way to those who seek salvation; rejoice, speaker of hidden mysteries; rejoice, sweet preacher of repentance; rejoice, thou who teachest sin-loving men the sweetness of self-restraint; rejoice, reprover of careless monks and lay folk; rejoice, thou who puttest to shame the heretics wickedly led astray; rejoice, thou who leadest unbelievers onto the way of truth and turnest back those who have strayed; rejoice, softener of hearts turned to stone and hardened; rejoice, destroyer of the designs of Beliar; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

When the lovers of the wilderness heard that thou didst walk blamelessly in the divine places, on the way of Christ’s commandments, and didst live like an angel, they began to come and to multiply; and when thou, the courageous one, didst see this, thou didst build cells and settle twelve monks in them, and didst teach them the unerring way that leadeth up to heaven; so now guide us to eternal life, O blessed Sergius, that with the wise virgins we may enter the eternal bridal chamber, singing: Alleluia.

When thy wondrous deeds were heard of in the ends of the earth, the minds of many were wounded with longing to see thee, and the ascetics in thine abode multiplied greatly; then thou didst build a lavra with hope in God, and in place of Eden thou didst open its door as a paradise to those who fervently fled to thee; and thy flocks, gathered by thy toil and born of thee in the spirit, attained by their humility to a great measure, and with hymns of good praise they called thee blessed as a great shepherd and a true father:

Rejoice, unfailing fountain that pourest forth teachings profitable to souls; rejoice, thou who makest the flock of Christ to flourish; rejoice, thou who fillest the lovers of holiness with hope; rejoice, opener of the eyes of souls blinded by sins; rejoice, thou who stirrest to love those grown thick of heart; rejoice, thou who didst train monks by the most strict monastic rule; rejoice, deliverer from every evil work of the devil and from the stirrings of the flesh; rejoice, thou who undoest malicious designs and slander; rejoice, thou who by divine grace keepest thy disciples incorrupt; rejoice, thou who humblest those exalted by pride; rejoice, thou who exaltest the wise and the clear-sighted; rejoice, thou who from thine abode spreadest inexhaustible graces on every side; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

When it was made known to the great prince Demetrius that the Tatars had resolved to ravage Russia again, he desired thy blessing, O father, that he might deliver the land from destruction, and he came to thy lavra and fell at thy feet; and the divine judgement of vengeance upon the enemies had been revealed to thee beforehand by God, and when thou hadst blessed him with holy water, thou didst foretell the victory that was to come, and didst send with him two ascetics from thy brotherhood as helpers; so now also cease not to deliver us all from the trials that surround us, that we may praise thy mighty power: Alleluia.

Seeing the courage of the God-loving Demetrius and his all-praised heroism, by thy sweetness thou didst wondrously pacify his opponents, and the princes and boyars who had fallen away from one another thou didst bind and strengthen in one mind by the love of God and the fatherland; so now plant mutual love among all the Orthodox peoples, that we whom Christ our God hath purchased with His flesh and blood may live in love and peace, and with one heart and one mouth may praise thee:

Rejoice, thou who leadest men to the service of the fatherland and to good order; rejoice, preacher of undivided love for God, fatherland and neighbour; rejoice, blesser of the pious rulers and armies; rejoice, reprover of oppressive and man-hating princes and judges; rejoice, thou who hast mercy on those unjustly persecuted by them; rejoice, thou who puttest to shame the merciless and the covetous; rejoice, thou who rescuest thy flock from waves of many kinds; rejoice, enlightener of minds darkened by unclean thoughts; rejoice, thou who strengthenest Christians terrified by the lawless; rejoice, thou who undoest hatred and mutual enmity among those of one faith; rejoice, protector from the snares of Satan and from the invasion of foreigners; rejoice, thou who settest us on the way of the commandments of the Lord; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

Many times thy disciples saw how thine angelic countenance sent forth flashes of radiance, which made manifest the surpassing graces hidden in thy soul, O blessed Sergius; and when with the sign of the precious Cross thou didst bless Isaac, who was taking up the struggle of silence, flashes of rays brighter than the sun shone forth from thy hands; but when he saw an angel concelebrating with thee in the sanctuary, then at last, trembling, he opened his silent lips, and with a loud voice glorified Christ who glorified thee: Alleluia.

When Mamai, the great commander of the Mongols, came to plunder and lay waste Russia, then Demetrius, strengthened by thee, went forth to fight him; and when he reached the field of Kulikovo, he roared like a lion, and put to flight and shamed that countless enemy; and thou didst fervently commend the great prince and his army to the Theotokos, and the names of those fallen in battle were straightway revealed to thee by God; ask of Him now, O venerable one, to drive away from us the enemies of the truth who have risen against us, and to still the waves of trials for us who sing to thee:

Rejoice, thou who liftest up the eye of the mind by uprightness; rejoice, thou who didst behold in spirit the battle of Kulikovo; rejoice, thou who by power from on high didst bind the countless host of the enemy; rejoice, thou who by thy prayer didst crush the strength of those insolent lawless ones; rejoice, lover of the glorious sons of thy people and renowned patriots; rejoice, thou who by thy signs and wonders dismayest the unbelievers; rejoice, sole protector of the Orthodox armies; rejoice, thou who undoest human treacheries and enmity among brothers; rejoice, shelter from the assault and the evils of the invisible enemies; rejoice, thou who breakest up wars without war for the glory of the name of Christ; rejoice, thou who didst establish Demetrius Saturday for the commemoration of the warriors who laid down their lives for the faith and the fatherland; rejoice, candle that enlightenest the wise and burnest the senseless; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

As thou didst entreat the most pure Theotokos for thine abode, thou wast made worthy to see her, walking as though alive and in the body with John and Peter; but trembling seized thee, father Sergius, and thou didst fall down before her; then the all-merciful Queen took thee lovingly by her hand and, bidding thee rise, promised thee that she would ever be the protector of thine abode and would fill it with many ascetics; and thou, overflowing with grace from on high, didst give thanks, O venerable one, and glorify her might: Alleluia.

Though for the love of Christ thou didst offer thyself on the altar of the monastic virtues, yet thou didst keep thy land, afflicted by enemies, unharmed from enmity among brothers and from division; so now behold the snares of the enemies spread wickedly over this our nation, and deliver us from strife among brothers and from internal discord among the Georgians, that, delivered by thee from evil misfortunes, we may say these hymns that follow:

Rejoice, angel on earth and wondrous man of heaven; rejoice, faithful servant of the All-Holy Trinity; rejoice, abyss of wisdom and partaker of divine love; rejoice, unhewn rock of the right faith; rejoice, boast of the Orthodox Church; rejoice, shield that defendest piety; rejoice, sword that cuttest off impiety; rejoice, fountain of divine love and grace; rejoice, rule of righteousness and consolation; rejoice, praise and boast of thy fatherland; rejoice, venerable father and hegumen of all Russia; rejoice, radiant star that enlightenest the whole world; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

As thou didst unceasingly ask of Christ the flourishing of thy flock and deliverance from the nets of the devil, one night thou didst hear a blessed voice from the heavenly powers, promising thee the flourishing of thine abode and the multiplying of monks in it like birds; and when thou didst see the beautiful birds of heaven, which wholly filled the lavra and its light-filled surroundings, thou didst hymn the Trinity, one in essence, undivided and unconfused: Alleluia.

As the Lord from time to time sent prophets to the kings of Israel, as a wall for the law and a help for the faithful, so He showed thee forth as the boast of all Russia, O blessed Sergius, for thou didst prophesy of things to come, and by thy divine and wise words didst reprove all without respect of persons; so now remove all insolence and pride from my darkened mind, and deliver us who sing in Orthodoxy from the delusion and snare of the Antichrist:

Rejoice, beholder of things to come as though present; rejoice, all-wise labourer, who perfectest the seekers of learning; rejoice, upholder and protector of monks; rejoice, builder of many monasteries and churches; rejoice, gatherer of good rules from the holy places; rejoice, thou who makest the ignorant wise and instructest them in godliness; rejoice, thou who strengthenest in the virtues; rejoice, thou who didst bring to light many good shepherds; rejoice, thou who by thy prayer healest those who suffer in soul and body; rejoice, thou who enlightenest those who revere thee by the dawn of wonders; rejoice, thou who by thy signs and wonders amazest the ascetics of Athos; rejoice, thou who bringest to nothing the evil design of senseless men risen against us; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

When thou didst hear the lamentation of a father and see his child dead of sickness, thou wast moved to great pity for him who fell down before thee weeping, like Christ, and didst pray fervently before Him; then the abyss of mercy hearkened, raised the dead one and granted him life; and the child’s father praised thee with joy as a wondrous wonderworker, and with thanksgiving glorified the Doer of good, who hath mercy on all: Alleluia.

Thy disciples were amazed, seeing the glory of God go forth from the altar table with light like fire, like lightning in the sanctuary; and thou wast holding the holy chalice in thy hands, and the flashes of the fiery rays went down into it; and when thou didst partake of the holy Communion of Christ, the good Spirit Himself came, abode with thee and enlightened thee brighter than the sun; and now through thine icon send down upon me the dew of thy grace and grant me the wisdom to discern good and evil, that, having fled from the pathless way of error, I may be made worthy to offer a hymn:

Rejoice, good shepherd of the rational sheep; rejoice, guide of those who have gone astray and of all who are directed toward heaven; rejoice, thou who makest monks wise and didst make idle deserts into a city; rejoice, chosen vessel of the virtues and abode of good works; rejoice, wall and hope of God-fearing priests; rejoice, comforter of those who labour and are heavy laden; rejoice, thou who hast mercy on the poor and on pilgrims; rejoice, nurturer of orphans and widows; rejoice, lawful director of the rich; rejoice, truly unmercenary physician of bodies and healer of souls; rejoice, true father of all who flee to thee; rejoice, great luminary, enlightener of the land of Russia and of all who dwell in it; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

O how glorious and mighty is thy struggle, O blessed Sergius! For, perfect in all wisdom and understanding, when thou hadst fulfilled forty years as hegumen, thou didst then withdraw and give the leadership of the brethren to the God-clad Nikon, thy disciple, while thou, day and night, didst serve Christ well with a pure mind; and when, full of years, thou didst depart from the body, thou didst pass through the heavens by the ladder of the virtues and come, O holy one, before Him; entreat Him now for the healing of the sicknesses of those who sing to thee with faith: Alleluia.

Thy disciples saw thy body shining like the sun, and buried it in thy lavra near the sanctuary; but the fear and awe of thy holiness spread over the princes and all the peoples, for even after death thou didst work miracles and heal sufferings of soul and body; and when thou didst appear in a wondrous vision to thy disciple for the healing of his wounds, he swiftly received relief, for he hoped in thy help; so now heal us of the sicknesses of the body and the sins of the soul, and grant an untroubled and wise life to us who sing to thee:

Rejoice, thou who didst live worthily and grow old in righteousness; rejoice, thou who by thy struggle didst well finish the divine course; rejoice, unashamed intercessor before the Holy Trinity; rejoice, ladder of the virtues that leadest up to the kingdom of heaven; rejoice, thou who fillest all the Orthodox with divine joy; rejoice, thou who bringest us in peace into the haven of eternal life; rejoice, thou who teachest us to live watchfully and soberly; rejoice, swift hearer of the prayers sent up in cells; rejoice, thou who bindest all the Orthodox in one mind, one soul and one will; rejoice, chastiser of those who craftily corrupt the peoples called by the name of Christ; rejoice, fulfiller of good petitions and bridle of vain impulses; rejoice, thou who instructest our mind in the divine fear; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

Then, in later times, when through visions from on high thou didst command a pious layman to bring forth thy relics hidden in the bosom of the earth, Hegumen Nikon was moved in spirit, and with hierarchs and people, with litany and hymns, brought forth the precious treasure, thy relics, incorrupt and unharmed; and he built a radiant and most beautiful church in the name of the All-Holy Trinity, and in it laid thy precious bones in a reliquary, O Sergius adorned with grace, that we who sing to thee may be filled with joy and spiritual light: Alleluia.

Now the Church rejoiceth and giveth thanks to God for thee, O Sergius, angel among men; and thy lavra is the herald of thy struggle and loudly proclaimeth thy labours, for in it lieth the holy reliquary of thy relics, which, as an unfailing fountain, richly bringeth forth the fragrance of graces and granteth healing to those who honour it; therefore we zealously hasten to thy beautiful church, the resting-place of thy relics, and, filled abundantly with the stream of its delights, we are enlightened and cry out with longing:

Rejoice, desert-dweller likened to Elijah and John, who didst put to shame all the enemies of God; rejoice, heavenly champion of thy people, for through thy prayer God gave the lawless to be vanquished by the hands of Christians; rejoice, unbending and most courageous ascetic, who didst establish thy people in the right faith and lay the cornerstone for the new building of thy land; rejoice, special servant of the Mother of God, who among many fathers wast chosen to see her and bow down before her; rejoice, thou who didst labour for the faith and the fatherland, whence thou didst receive from Christ the crown of victory; rejoice, example of the divine priesthood, for Epiphanius the All-wise radiantly wrote thy Life of many struggles and made us behold thy radiance; rejoice, invincible helper of the churches of Christ, for we the faithful have the reliquary of thy precious bones as a wall of steadfastness, a treasury of grace and a banisher of demons; rejoice, for thou canst help all who hope in thy prayers and flee to thine intercession; rejoice, joyful radiance of the land, for neither the change of years nor the circumstances of the times could make thy struggle, which is above nature, forgotten; rejoice, for thou art a wall for those who magnify thy miracles; rejoice, for there is none who calleth upon thee in afflictions and findeth not swift consolation; rejoice, citizen of the heavenly kingdom, for not only thine own kinsmen sing to thee with a song of victory, but our people too, the lot of the Theotokos, calleth thee blessed with love; Rejoice, Sergius, swift helper and all-glorious wonderworker!

O illustrious and courageous wonderworker, our wondrously swift helper in trial and in sorrows, venerable father Sergius! Pour now upon us the sweet grace of thy prayer, and grant that we may pass unharmed through this short and temporal life and be well-pleasing to the All-Holy Trinity. Grant us contrition of soul through confession and purification of heart through repentance, that, having attained to the perfect measure in virtue, we may reach those beauties of heaven and with thee sing to the Holy Trinity: Alleluia.

This kontakion is said thrice; then Ikos 1 and Kontakion 1.

O all-praised venerable father Sergius, shining with signs and wonders! Boast of monks and firmness of the churches, chosen servant of the Holy Trinity, counsellor and companion of the angels, by thy holy prayer intercessor and protector of the Orthodox armies, and refuge and strength of those who fall down before thee with faith.

O all-radiant and shining star of the wilderness and hegumen of all Russia, venerable father Sergius! When thou wast lifted up from the body to thy longed-for God, thou didst not leave thy children and those who love thee orphans, for thou didst grant thine all-praised relics to the holy Church as a light and a crown of graces; and we venerate them, and year by year keep the feast of their uncovering, and we entreat thee: as thou hast boldness before the all-merciful King, remember before Him us who ever fall down before thy sweet intercession and help, and by thine intercession deliver our people, encompassed by trials and afflictions. Strengthen in their ministry the Most Holy and Most Blessed Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazeti, the great lord, our father Ilia, the most reverend metropolitans, archbishops and bishops, the honourable priests, the deacons in Christ and all the monastic orders, the members of the Orthodox Church and all Orthodox Christians. Magnify those who bear thy name and those who entreat thee. Entreat, O all-praised and courageous father, the sweetest Jesus whom thou didst love, to forgive us our apostasies, the destruction and defilement of churches, the murders of the servants of God, betrayal, envy and disorders, the killing of our infants in the womb and the multitude of our other sins.

O father of fathers, guide of those who have gone astray and great hegumen of the glorious wildernesses of Radonezh, all-blessed Sergius! Intercede before God, that He may grant glory to the churches, honour to the clergy, good shepherding of the people to the rulers, valour to the soldiers, sinlessness to the laity and chastity to women; and that He may make us flourish and multiply and fill us with the spirit of wisdom, mutual love and divine understanding, and restore to us love of righteousness, many children and mercy towards widows and orphans; may He grant us love for a pure life, hatred of unseemly deeds and contrition of heart, crowns with the saints and the inheritance of the kingdom of heaven, that we too with thee may glorify the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

It is truly meet that we should magnify thee, O Theotokos, who art ever-blessed and all-immaculate and the Mother of our God. Thee, more honourable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who without corruption gavest birth to God the Word, the only Theotokos, we magnify in song.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Thy most pure Mother, of our venerable father Sergius of Radonezh the wonderworker, and of all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.
