Prayer of the Optina Elders

O Lord, grant me strength to receive with peace of soul all that this day brings me; grant me strength to surrender myself wholly to Thy holy will. In every hour of this day guide and support me in all things. Whatever news I may hear this day, teach me to receive it with a peaceful soul and with firm faith that all is done by Thy holy will. Be Thou ever the guide of my thoughts and feelings in the time of work and of conversation, and in every unforeseen event. Let me not forget that all is sent by Thee. Teach me to live wisely and sincerely with all my household, neither grieving nor troubling anyone. O Lord, grant me strength to bear the weariness of the coming day and all that happens in the course of it. Guide my will, and teach me prayer, hope, faith, love, patience and forgiveness. Amen.
