On Drunkenness
If ever a man is in the devil’s power, it is most of all when he is drunk.
The devil loves no one as much as a drunkard, for no one does his will as the drunkard does.
A drunkard is good for nothing but hell.
A drunken man is not let even into a decent house, let alone into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Do not hate wine; hate drunkenness. It is not wine that is bad, but its misuse.
Wine is God’s work; drunkenness is the devil’s.
Fear drinking without measure as you would the fire of Gehenna.
A drunk man will dare what a sober one would not do.
A drunkard is not worthy to live among reasonable people. He should be put with the animals and driven out of human society.
Holy Scripture sends the lazy to the ants to learn industry, and drunkards should be sent to the animals to learn abstinence. Hieromonk I. Tolmardov
