On Falsehood and Hypocrisy
You will have noticed that a dishonest man talks endlessly about honesty. Do not trust one who praises honesty and generosity too much, and do not suppose that one who talks without measure and everywhere about courage will defend you. Hypocrites usually reproach others for what they do themselves, and far more often. It is a grievous state when there is holiness on the lips and lawlessness and malice in the heart. Abba Isaiah
Do not try to seem righteous to others, but be so — for it is well known that he who wishes to appear righteous has no righteousness.
