Supplicatory Canon

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Thy most pure Mother and of all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, who art everywhere present and fillest all things with Thy grace, Treasury of good things and Giver of life: come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O Good One.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, deliver us and release us from our sins; O Master, pardon our iniquities; O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name’s sake.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Lord, have mercy. (Twelve times)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

O come, let us worship God our King. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King and God. O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King and our God.

O Lord Jesus Christ, Thou didst say with Thy most pure lips: “Verily I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of My Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them” (Mt 18:19–20). Unchanging are Thy words, O our God, unsearchable is Thy providence, countless are Thy mercies, and Thy love for mankind hath no bounds.

O Lord, attend to my prayer: hearken to my supplication in thy truth; hear me in thy righteousness. And enter not into judgment with thy servant, for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has brought my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in a dark place, as those that have been long dead. Therefore my spirit was grieved in me; my heart was troubled within me. I remembered the days of old; and I meditated on all thy doings: yea, I meditated on the works of thine hands. I spread forth my hands to thee; my soul thirsts for thee, as a dry land. Pause. Hear me speedily, O Lord; my spirit has failed; turn not away thy face from me, else I shall be like to them that go down to the pit. Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning; for I have hoped in thee; make known to me, O Lord, the way wherein I should walk; for I have lifted up my soul to thee. Deliver me from mine enemies, O Lord; for I have fled to thee for refuge. Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God; thy good Spirit shall guide me in the straight way. Thou shalt quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake; in thy righteousness thou shalt bring my soul out of affliction. And in thy mercy thou wilt destroy mine enemies, and wilt destroy all those that afflict my soul; for I am thy servant.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

God is the Lord and hath appeared unto us; blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Verse 1: O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever. Verse 2: All nations compassed me about, and in the name of the Lord I drove them back. Verse 3: I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. Verse 4: The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner; this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes.

Save, O Lord, Thy people and bless Thine inheritance; grant by the Cross victory over the barbarians to our God-protected people, and keep them beneath its shelter, that we may say: O Lord, glory to Thee.

Glory… The troparion (the same). Both now…

O awesome and unshamed intercession, O all-praised Theotokos, good and invincible guardian, accept the supplication of us the unworthy; strengthen Orthodoxy, save our people, and grant victory from on high from Christ God, whom thou didst bear, O thou alone blessed.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of thy compassions blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I am conscious of mine iniquity; and my sin is continually before me. Against thee only have I sinned, and done evil before thee: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. For, behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me. For, behold, thou lovest truth: thou hast manifested to me the secret and hidden things of thy wisdom. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be purified: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. Thou shalt cause me to hear gladness and joy: the afflicted bones shall rejoice. Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in my inward parts. Cast me not away from thy presence; and remove not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation: establish me with thy directing Spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and ungodly men shall turn to thee. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation: and my tongue shall joyfully declare thy righteousness. O Lord, thou shalt open my lips; and my mouth shall declare thy praise. For if thou desiredst sacrifice, I would have given it: thou wilt not take pleasure in whole-burnt-offerings. Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit: a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, to Sion in thy good pleasure; and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then shalt thou be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, offering, and whole-burnt-sacrifices: then shall they offer calves upon thine altar.

Irmos: The Red Sea was cleft by the rod, the depths were dried up, and the abyss became a path for the unarmed and a tomb for the armed; let us sing in songs, for gloriously glorified is Christ our living God.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

O only-begotten Christ, Word of God, when Thou wast willingly slain as a sacrifice to the Father and offered for the sins of the world, Thou didst sanctify the Church with Thy blood, O Deliverer; deliver her children also from every evil.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

In faith we bow down and with trembling kiss Thy Cross, which Thou hast given us as a weapon and a help, O Jesus who lovest mankind; and to Thee we cry: Deliver our people from every passion and from the snares of the world.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Now the hosts of the godless have risen up, O Christ, to corrupt Thy faith upon the earth and to belittle the truth among our people; but do Thou give us saving and divine courage to fulfil Thy will.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Fight for us who hope in thee against those who war against us without mercy, O Mother of God of Jesus Christ, and deliver this land, thy portion, from all troubles and snares, for thou art our hope and guide, O immaculate one.

Irmos: O holy Trinity, exalt today the horn of the Church unbending, above nature, on the height of Thy faith, the unshaken foundation, and establish us therein.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

Strengthen Thy Church, O Christ God, which Thou didst build by the power of Thy Cross, by which Thou didst put the devil to shame, and keep us unharmed from all his wiles.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

O Christ, who by Thy blood didst gain us as Thine own faithful people, grant us Thy peace and keep Thy flock ever unharmed.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Come, let us fall down before the Lord, that with the might of His arm He may take vengeance on the oppressors of the Georgians and establish our people unshaken in Orthodoxy.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

We the faithful know thee as a haven of salvation, O Virgin Mary, who didst ineffably bear the Saviour of us all; intercede with Him for us, that He may deliver us from trials.

Deliver thy servants from trials, O all-holy Theotokos and Virgin, for after God we all flee to thee as to an unbreakable wall and intercession.

Look upon us, O all-praised Theotokos, and heal the grievous wounds of our bodies and the sicknesses of our souls.

As the venom of a serpent poisoneth and killeth a man, so drunkenness and the stupor of hashish and opium wound the heart and soul of a man and kill the love of God and of neighbour. Therefore receive those tossed by all these evil passions (names), and crush the head of the serpent that woundeth them with the venom of sin, that, coming to their senses, they may depart from their foul habits and glorify Thee, O good Jesus, as the Almighty, the Saviour and Deliverer.

Irmos: When the prophet beheld the hidden mystery, he cried out in amazement: For Thou hast set a firm love in mercy, O Father, and hast given Thine only-begotten Son to the sons of men for the remission of sins.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

Nothing is so dear and desirable to the devil as the stupefying of a man; but do Thou snatch (name) from his hands, and plant in the heart hatred of sin and love of virtue.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

O Christ, who didst enlighten the race of men by Thy coming and sanctify the ends of the earth by the Cross, now, O Master, keep our dear ones (names) from evil bondage and open to them the door of faith.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

How shall we not tremble, seeing those stupefied by drink and drugs, O Jesus our Deliverer? None can deliver them but Thee; and now by Thy power bring them to their senses, that they may turn from sin and follow Christ.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

By thy wondrous help bring to nothing the counsels of the heathen, O protectress of the afflicted, full of grace; and cast down once more our mighty and wicked foes, O Virgin, and expose their wiles.

Irmos: Out of the darkness of sins our souls cry to Thee, O most merciful God: enlighten us with Thine unsetting light and direct our steps, O Herald of peace.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

Thou didst come as Light into the world, O Christ, and Thou shinest upon those who confess Thee; kindle in the hearts of the ignorant and the weak (names) the divine fire of zeal, that they may love purity and be moved to serve Thee.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

O God and King, who in mercy sparest Thy people and turnest them back to Thee through sorrows and trials, now keep our dear ones (names), who are dead through the tyranny of the passions, and bring them to life for Thy glory.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As Thou didst trample down the enmity of the prince of darkness and enlighten the world, appearing Thyself from on high, O Jesus, Sun of righteousness, uncircumscribed God, so now cast down the tyranny of the wicked men who corrupt our people.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Have mercy on us, O holy Virgin Mary, and deliver us not into the hands of the wicked oppressors, lest all say: Where is the Mother of God in whom they hope? And shelter thy flock, that none may war against it.

Irmos: The sea monster received Jonah into its belly and did not destroy him, for thereby it foreshadowed Thy three-day burial, O Good One, who didst accept burial for our sake; and he said to the guards: O ye false ones, ye have forsaken your mercy this day.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

Thou didst build the Church upon the rock and gather the nations in her to sing to Thee; the hostile powers have risen up to bring Thy power to nothing, O Christ, but now wall her about with the powers of heaven.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

To Thee we flee, O Christ, hope of the despairing, and we entreat Thee:

Now ravening wolves have surrounded Thy rational sheep to destroy them; but to Thee we flee, O Christ, hope of the despairing, and we entreat Thee: give us faithful and righteous shepherds and rulers, to be guides to their flocks.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As Thou didst make Belial and his host powerless, O Christ, so awaken our people, fallen into the slackness of sleep, and part them wholly from all the destroying works of the devil, hidden and open.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

In thee alone we have an incorrupt shelter, O Virgin; but the godless peoples who oppress thy portion know not thy dominion: shake them and make them tremble, O Lady, and deliver us from all evils and trials.

Deliver thy servants from trials, O all-holy Theotokos and Virgin, for after God we all flee to thee as to an unbreakable wall and intercession.

Look upon us, O all-praised Theotokos, and heal the grievous wounds of our bodies and the sicknesses of our souls.

Thou who wast lifted up on the Cross of Thine own will, grant Thy mercies to Thy new commonwealth that bears Thy name, O Christ God; gladden by Thy power our God-protected people, granting it victory over its adversaries, for it hath as its ally Thy weapon of peace, the invincible trophy, Thine almighty Cross.

The Lord said: Ask, and it shall be given you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him?

Glory to Thee, O Lord, glory to Thee.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, blot out the multitude of our sins.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Merciful One, blot out the multitude of our sins.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy compassions blot out my transgression, and have mercy on me, O God.

Sticheron: O Christ, who many times didst grant victory to our kings and glorify the Church in Orthodoxy, so now accept our prayers and keep Thy Church unshaken; grant by the Cross victory to our people, strength to the faithful and the exalting of their horn over the heretics, peace to the world and great mercy to our souls.

Irmos: We have sinned and done iniquity and wrought falsehood before Thee; we have not kept nor done, O Master, as Thou didst command us; but give us not up utterly, O Most High, God of our fathers.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

O Merciful One, who in Thy great love for mankind didst not will to leave man under the power of the devil, at the end of the ages deliver those brought near to perdition by the waves of sin (names) from the beast that destroyeth souls.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

Cast down, O Lord, the enemies of Thy life-giving Cross and of the Theotokos; deliver our people from evil and wall them about against every defilement and snare, for Thou alone art the Benefactor.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

O Jesus our Deliverer, make powerless all who spread drugs — the unbelievers and helpers of the devil — and cut them off; but whoever cometh to his senses, like the Ninevites, let him ever praise God.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

As thou art an unshaken and indestructible wall and an immovable tower for Christian peoples, so now we also call upon thee, O Lady, that thou mayest deliver us from all sorrows, sicknesses and torments.

Irmos: Thy holy children in Babylon, made like the Cherubim, uttered the thrice-holy song: We bless Thee, we sing to Thee and exalt Thee, the God of all.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

Behold, like lions our enemies boast against us and oppress us; but do Thou humble their pride and deliver us from the evil-doing of the wicked, that they may know that we are the people of Thy flock.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

With Thine all-seeing eye look upon those stupefied by poison and ever darkened in mind (names); have mercy on them and heal them by Thy countless mercy.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

O holy Trinity, exalt the horn of the Church on the height of Thy faith, the unshaken foundation, and therein strengthen our people and grant them victory over their foes.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

O all-praised Theotokos, thou canst do all things with thy Son who is before the ages; entreat Him, then, as a merciful mother, to deliver us from all sorrows.

Irmos: Thou alone art blessed among the generations, O Virgin, for from thee light hath shone upon us who sit in darkness and hath enlightened our souls; therefore, O Theotokos, we rightly magnify thee.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

As of old by thine almighty generalship thou didst deliver the reigning city from the enemy, so now bring to nothing the wiles of our countless enemies and oppressors, O immaculate one, and deliver us from betrayal within by covetous rulers.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, have mercy on us.

O holy Lady, who didst carry Christ in thine arms, spread over us thy mercy as a cloud of light, and deliver the newly planted children of our people from all the passions and evils that rob the mind and destroy.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Wall about these suffering servants (names) with the powers of heaven, with invisible hosts, and make their cruel sickness vanish, O Virgin, holy Mother of God; and strengthen them again, that they may keep the commandments of thy Son.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Be strength and firmness, protector and fortifier to thy people, O Virgin who didst carry Christ God in thine arms, and entreat Him to be merciful, that He may shelter us from storms and afflictions and deliver us from the fire to come.

It is truly meet that we should magnify thee, O Theotokos, who art ever-blessed and all-immaculate and the Mother of our God. Thee, more honourable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who without corruption gavest birth to God the Word, the only Theotokos, we magnify in song.

A layman reads:

Thou Thyself, O our Saviour, didst teach us to pray thus, in divine light and for ever: “Our heavenly Father, pardon and forgive us our debts, and lead us not into the temptation that lieth before us, but deliver us from the evil one — the proud enemy, the destroyer of our souls and bodies, the ruler of this world, dark Belial.”

O our Saviour, Word and Power of the Father, have mercy on us and quench Thy wrath for our sins, O Christ; cast down the insolence of the faithless and the greedy, for they have grievously weakened this Thy chosen people through passions of many kinds; and render to them Thy judgement in justice.

Now the mothers, sisters and children of those wretched sufferers, robbed of their minds by drink of many kinds and by drugs, are stricken with dread and trembling; and rising early to Thee, O almighty Jesus our Deliverer, they shed rivers of tears and entreat Thee for the healing of their dear ones and their release from that passion.

Behold, now many godless men and heathen boast against thy people, O holy Mary, and devise evil against them; deliver them not into their hands, lest they say: Where is the Mother of God in whom they hope? And grant thy flock prosperity and peace, that, kept unharmed, we may thank thee and glorify God:

Amen.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for, at a loss for any defence, we sinners offer to Thee, our good Master, this supplication: Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

O Lord, have mercy on us, for in Thee have we put our trust; be not very wroth with us, neither remember our iniquities, but look upon us in mercy, for Thou art compassionate, and deliver us justly from Thy wrath; for Thou art our God and we are Thy people; we are all the work of Thy hands, and Thy name is called upon us: have mercy on us.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Open unto us the door of compassion, O blessed Theotokos, that hoping in thee we may not perish, but be delivered from our adversaries; for thou art the salvation of the Christian race.

O Lord Jesus Christ who lovest mankind, Saviour of our souls, who seekest out the lost and turnest back those who stray, who healest the sick, hast mercy on the penitent, raisest the dead and comfortest the poor: now we also call upon Thee as our Deliverer in afflictions and trials, and we cry to Thee: accept the sighing and grief of mothers and sisters, of honourable wives mourning over their husbands, and of distressed children; and those here commended to Thee in prayer (names) deliver from the bondage of that deadly passion and heal them wondrously, that we may all know that Thou art our strength and our might.

O Lord God, our Saviour Jesus Christ, Thine enemies and those that hate Thee have grown strong and strive with guile to corrupt even the Lord’s people and make them a people of darkness; but we hope in Thee and entreat Thee: grant us fervour of faith, brotherly love for our neighbour and divine zeal for our fatherland; and all who are wounded by the tyranny of the passions and carried away by the filth of sin (names) snatch from the depths of perdition, and grant them salvation of soul and body. Protect and strengthen in his ministry our great lord, the Most Holy and Most Blessed Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta and Tbilisi and Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, our father Ilia, and the most reverend metropolitans, archbishops and bishops, the honourable priests, the deacons in Christ and all the monastic orders, the members of the Orthodox Church and all Orthodox Christians. Keep, O good Lord, our holy Church, and direct well the steps of all her children on the path of truth, that we may be saved and made worthy of Thy kingdom; for blessed and glorified is Thy kingdom, with Thy Father who is without beginning and Thine all-holy and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Thy most pure Mother and of all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our strength and our hope, remember not our sins and turn not away in Thy wrath, but look upon our people with mercy, and crush and cast down those godless plotters who devise the ruin of our children by snares of every kind, that all may know that Thou art our God and we Thy people, wholly kept by Thy might.

O all-immaculate Theotokos, our Lady Mary, Mother of sweetest Jesus, bless us who in faith fall down before thy motherly grace and help, and make us worthy of the unending glory of thy Son. Amen!
