Hymns to the Holy Angel, Guardian of Our Soul and Body

Let us sing unto the Lord, who led His people through the Red Sea; to Him alone let us sing, for He hath been glorified.

O holy guardian angel, pray to God for me.

Make me, Thy servant, worthy, O my Saviour, to sing and to praise the bodiless angel, my guide and guardian.

O holy guardian angel, pray to God for me.

Have mercy on me, for I lie alone in sloth and heedlessness; O my guide, my guardian angel, forsake me not, lost as I am.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Direct my mind by thine intercession to do the commandments of God, that I may obtain from Him the forgiveness of sins; and lead me to hate all evil, I entreat thee.

Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Pray, O Virgin, for me thy servant to the good God, together with my guardian, and guide me to keep the commandments of thy Son.

Thou art the strength of those who entreat Thee, O Christ; Thou art the light of those in darkness, and my soul magnifieth Thee.

I have entrusted all my mind and soul to thee, O my guardian angel; so shall I be delivered from every assault of the enemies.

The enemy afflicteth me and ever teacheth me to do his will; but do thou, my guide, forsake me not, lost as I am.

Make me worthy to offer praise to God and to thee, my guardian angel, and deliver me, afflicted as I am, from my enemies.

Heal, O all-holy one, this my grievously sick soul, and drive away my spiritual enemies, who ever war against me.

With spiritual longing I sing to thee, O holy angel, guardian of my soul: keep me and shelter me from the snares of the evil one, give me understanding to walk towards life, and cleanse me and strengthen me.

O Theotokos, Bride, who without seed didst bear the King of all, entreat Him together with my guardian angel to deliver me from all heedlessness, to grant compunction and light to my soul, and to bestow forgiveness; for thou alone art a swift helper.

I have heard, O Lord, of the dispensation of Thine ineffable mysteries; I have considered Thy works, and I have confessed Thy Godhead.

O Mary, Mother of God, hope of the faithful, cast down the insolence of the enemies and gladden those who praise thee.

Give me a shining garment, O God, who puttest on light as a garment, through the intercession of the martyrs.

Set me free from all trials and deliver me from cares, I entreat thee, O holy angel, and establish me in good understanding.

Make my mind holy, O blessed one, and enlighten me, I entreat thee, O holy angel, and direct my understanding ever towards what is better.

Deliver my heart from the evils of the stirrings of lust, strengthen me to be watchful in good things, O my guardian, and lead me to a life of stillness.

Show me thy mercy, O holy angel of God, my guardian, and depart not from me, defiled as I am, but enlighten me with the unapproachable light and make me worthy of the heavenly kingdom.

This my soul, disgraced by many deceptions, O holy protector, make worthy to sing the ineffable glory of heaven with the choir of the bodiless powers; have mercy on me and keep me in good understanding; enlighten my soul, O my angel, that we may be enriched by thy glory; turn back the enemy who plotteth evil against me, and make me worthy of the kingdom of heaven.

The God-fearing youths in Babylon did not serve the golden image, and for this they were cast into the furnace; and, bedewed, they cried out and said: Blessed art Thou, O Lord God of our fathers.

Be merciful to me and entreat the Lord God, O my angel, for I have thee as my guide throughout all my life, and as my guardian, given me by God unto the ages.

All things are filled with wisdom, and by the power of the Godhead in Persons, through the lofty wisdom, we cry with understanding to the Mother of God: Blessed art thou, O Lady, who didst bear God in the flesh.

Sing to the King of heaven, whom the choirs of angels serve, and exalt Him unto the ages.

O angel sent by God, all-good, establish the life of me thy servant, and forsake me not unto the ages.

Be a quiet helper to me thy servant, O Theotokos, Ever-Virgin, and let me not be deprived of the kingdom.

We confess thee as Theotokos, we who have been saved through thee, O immaculate Virgin, and with the choir of the bodiless we magnify thee unceasingly.

O holy guardian angel, pray to God for me.

O Jesus, have mercy on me, O my only Saviour, and make me worthy to share in the assembly of the righteous, that I may magnify Thee.

O holy guardian angel, pray to God for me.

Grant me, O holy angel, ever to do with all my heart what is good and profitable, and show me strong and blameless in weakness.

For thou hast boldness before the King of heaven; entreat Him, with the other bodiless ones, to help me, wretched as I am.

Thou hast great boldness before Him who was born of thee, O Virgin; loose me who am bound by sin and grant me thy help, that I may sing to thee.

O holy angel, helper of my wretched soul and of my passionate life, forsake me not, a sinner, neither depart from me because of my prodigality; give no place to the evil demon to master me through the violence of this mortal body; strengthen my wretched and feeble hand, and teach me the way of life. O holy angel, grant me the repentance of Peter, the tears of the Magdalene, the confession of the crucified thief; forgive me my sins committed until now. O holy angel of God, guardian and protector of my lowly soul and body, forgive me all wherewith I have angered thee and grieved thee all the days of my life; and if I have sinned in anything this day, shelter me this present night and deliver me from every trial of the adversary, that I may not anger God by any sin; and pray for me to the Lord, that He may establish me in His fear and show me a servant worthy of His grace.
