Holy Martyrs Bassus, Eusebius, Eutychius and Basilides (+303)

The holy Martyrs Bassus, Eusebius, Eutychius and Basilides were courtiers of the Emperor Diocletian: they witnessed the martyrdom for Christ of Theopemptus, Bishop of Nicomedia (commemorated 5 January), believed in the true God and were baptised. For this the saints were cruelly tortured and put to death: Bassus was buried in the ground up to his waist and sawn asunder; Saint Eusebius was hung upside down and cut in half; Saint Eutychius was tied by his hands and feet to posts and torn to pieces; Saint Basilides had his belly ripped open with a knife. This happened in 303.
