Prayer of a Maiden for the Gift of a God-pleasing Husband

O most merciful Lord, I have not fled to any other physician, nor have I stretched out my hands to a strange god, but to Thy goodness; for Thou art the Lord God, who hast authority over all souls and rejectest not the supplication of those who flee to Thee. Thou hast said, O Lord: Ask, and it shall be given you. Turn not away my supplication, O Good One; have mercy on me, O Lord, and hear me for Thy goodness’ sake. Send down Thy grace from on high upon this Thy handmaid, and keep me from pride and idle talk; let prudence, humility, modesty and chastity adorn me, that with a pure heart and understanding I may fulfil Thy holy commandments. For Thou art He who in the beginning didst create man and woman and didst bestow on them the seal of marriage, when Thou saidst: “It is not good that the man should be alone; let us make him an help meet for him”; and taking one of Adam’s ribs, Thou didst build it into a wife for him and bring her unto him. And as Thou didst bless them and give them increase, and they twain were one flesh, so hear also my cry, sent up to Thee from a maiden’s heart: O most holy Master, grant me an honourable and God-fearing husband, that not in passion and vice, but in reverence and obedience I may bear the heavy yoke of marriage. O Lord our God, who bindest with the indissoluble bond of love, establish our union unbreakably and grant us a life blessed with good children, that in love and concord we may give thanks to Thine all-holy name, of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
