Prayer for the Nation and the Fatherland
O God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Creator of all creation, who by Thy word didst make all things in wisdom in heaven and on earth, and didst perfect Thy creation by the grace of Thy Holy Spirit; who didst create man in Thine image and likeness, and didst subject all things under his hands, and didst set him as head of Thy creatures, to show forth Thine immortal kingship and dominion; who, when he fell, didst not disregard him, but by the riches of Thy mercies and Thy love for mankind didst order his restoration and salvation, not deeming it unworthy even to give Thine only-begotten Son as a spotless sacrifice for his salvation, and through Thy Son didst send down upon them Thine all-holy and life-giving Spirit, the Bestower of wisdom and power and of deification by grace; who at the time of the Babylonian error, when mankind was of one voice and one tongue and plotting evil, didst will to send Thy Holy Spirit, and in Thy divine mercy and beneficence didst confound them and create tongues to divide them into races, tribes and nations, that every man in the tongue of his own people might tell of Thy divine glory, and not be mingled with other tongues, made one tongue in the service of that first evil one; who, for the good government of each tribe and people, didst appoint kings and princes, rulers and presidents, stewards and governors, to guard and care for the people and tribe entrusted to them and speaking the tongue granted by Thee, and to make it flourish and enrich it with every good thing of soul and body, and to strengthen its borders, that it might not be trampled by plundering foreign tribes and peoples, and in the time of common distress to stand by the afflicted, the helpless and the ill-treated: do Thou now also, O Lord, look with merciful eye upon the vineyard planted by Thee — upon this our Georgian people, which by the might of Thy right hand hath sprung up round about the dwellings of Kedar, to confess Thy holy name and to worship Thy divine holy things; and be pleased now also to make them flourish and multiply and to fill them with the spirit of wisdom, of mutual love and of divine understanding; and grant them, as rulers and guides, wise and good shepherds and princes, that they may lose not one sheep of their flock, but labour for them, protect them and guide them, and hold well all their lands; and by the might of Thine arm crush all the enemies and adversaries who come to root out our tongue and our people from their dwellings; and grant them victory also over the invisible enemies and the powers of darkness, that under their guidance the people Thou hast acquired, a peculiar people, may inherit Thine eternal kingdom, and in the endless ages bless, praise and sing unto Thee with unceasing glorification, the Benefactor of our souls, together with Thine only-begotten Son and Thine all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
