Holy Martyr Menignus (+250)
The holy Martyr Menignus was a simple craftsman. The Lord granted a special favour to Saint Menignus, who was filled with love for God and his neighbour: twice the blessed one heard a heavenly voice calling him to a martyr’s end for Christ. During the persecution of the Christians by the Emperor Decius (249–251) the following miracle took place: an angel freed imprisoned Christians from prison. When Menignus learned of this, he was filled with joy and loved Christ with his whole heart. He remembered the heavenly call to martyrdom for Christ, tore down the lawless Decius’s decree on the persecution of the Orthodox that had been posted in the square, and publicly confessed the true God. For this he was seized and, after cruel tortures, beheaded (+250). Before his end a white dove flew forth from the martyr’s lips.
