Hieromartyr Peter of Capitolias (III–IV)
The Hieromartyr Peter, bishop of Capitolias, governed his flock wisely; during his ministry many pagans were converted to the true faith. As a teacher of the Christians and a hierarch who overthrew paganism, he was seized by the Persians and taken from Capitolias (a city on the road from Jerusalem to Damascus) to Damascus. Here the saint was terribly tortured and at last beheaded. The executioners gave the martyr’s hacked body to the fire and let the water carry away the ashes. This happened at the end of the third century or the beginning of the fourth.
