Venerable George of Lemnos (VIII)
The Venerable George of Lemnos was born on the island of Lemnos. He was a monk of the monastery of Olympus, near Constantinople. The saint suffered for the veneration of icons in the reign of the iconoclast Emperor Leo the Isaurian (717–741). After many kinds of torture the executioners set fire to his hair and, when his face was burned, cut off his nose. The Venerable George died around 716 in deep old age.
