Venerable Anna (+826) and Her Son John

The Venerable Anna and her son John lived in Byzantium. Anna was the daughter of the priest of the church of Blachernae in Constantinople. After her husband’s death she put on men’s clothing and, under the name Euphemian, settled with her son, Saint John, in a men’s monastery near Olympus. The Venerable Anna reposed in Constantinople in 826. Her memory is kept twice: on 14 June and on 29 October.
