St Polybius, Bishop of Rhinocorura (V)
Saint Polybius, Bishop of Rhinocorura (V), was a disciple of Saint Epiphanius of Cyprus; he accompanied him on his journeys and wrote down his teacher’s life and miracles.
Saint Polybius was with Saint Epiphanius when he withdrew from Constantinople, not wishing to take part in the council arranged against Saint John Chrysostom. Lying on his deathbed, Saint Epiphanius said to Polybius: “Go to Egypt; I will care for thee even after my death.” Saint Polybius obediently fulfilled his teacher’s last wish and, before his burial, went to Egypt, where he was chosen Bishop of Rhinocorura. For his God-pleasing labours the saint was granted the gift of wonderworking. Once, through his prayer, the Lord sent rain from heaven in time of drought and multiplied the harvest. Saint Polybius died in deep old age.
