St Maximian, Patriarch of Constantinople (434)

Saint Maximian, Patriarch of Constantinople (+434), was born into the family of a rich and pious Roman.

Saint Maximian, distinguished by his simplicity, loved the solitary life. If anyone known for a holy life died, Maximian would bury him at his own expense. For his holiness and charity Patriarch Sisinnius (426–427) ordained him priest, and after the banishment of the heretic Patriarch Nestorius (428–431), on 25 October 431, the venerable father was made helmsman of the Church of Constantinople. This happened in the reign of the holy King Theodosius the Younger (408–450).

Saint Maximian reposed in peace on 12 April 434, on Great Thursday.
