Righteous Mariamne, Sister of the Apostle Philip (I)
The Venerable Mariamne was the sister of the Apostle Philip (commemorated 14 November). The holy maiden accompanied her brother and the Apostle Bartholomew (commemorated 11 June) and helped them in their preaching. In the Phrygian city of Hierapolis the saints were seized and thrown into prison. Philip did not escape the pagans’ vengeance: he met his end on a cross, while Mariamne and Bartholomew were set free. The Apostle Bartholomew went to India to preach the Gospel, while Saint Mariamne preached in Lycaonia (Asia Minor) and reposed there in peace.
