Venerable Neophytus of Vatopedi

Saint Neophytus of Vatopedi was the sacristan of the Vatopedi monastery on Athos. Once he fell gravely ill and with fervent prayer besought the Theotokos for healing. In answer he heard from the icon of the Most Holy Virgin: “A year of life is granted you to prepare for death!” Miraculously healed, Neophytus made his labours stricter and began to prepare for his end. A year later, on a Sunday, the saint again heard a voice from the same icon: the time of your repose has now come. After receiving the holy Body and Blood of Christ, the Venerable Neophytus committed his soul to the Lord in peace.
