Venerable Schemamonk Cyril and Schemanun Maria (+c. 1337)

The schemamonks Cyril and Maria (c. 1337), the parents of the great Russian father Sergius of Radonezh (commemorated 25 September), were pious and noble boyars who lived near Rostov, in the village of Varnitsa, and around 1328 moved to Radonezh. After their elder sons had married, the saints put on the schema in the Khotkovo monastery of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, where they soon reposed in God-pleasing labour.
