Venerable Theodulus (V)

The Venerable Theodulus was the son of Nilus the Faster (commemorated 12 November), who described the slaughter of the fathers of Raithu in the fifth century. Together with his father Theodulus withdrew from the world while still young and settled on Mount Sinai. During an attack of barbarians on the desert monks he was taken captive. In the city of Elusa the local hierarch ransomed Theodulus from the hands of the lawless. It was in his house that Saint Nilus found his longed-for son. The bishop ordained both father and son priests, after which they returned to Mount Sinai. In the reign of Justin the Younger (565–578) the incorrupt relics of the saints were translated to Constantinople and placed in the Church of the Holy Apostles.
