Venerable Stephen (VIII)

The Venerable Stephen lived in the seventh century. In imitation of the great ascetic fathers he visited many monasteries of Palestine, and then was tonsured a monk and founded a monastery in Bithynia, near Chalcedon, where many monks gathered.

The holy father foresaw the hour of his repose. Several monks were counted worthy to see his glorious ascent, accompanied by angels, into the Kingdom of heaven.
