Venerable Domitian, Bishop of Melitene (+601)

The Venerable Domitian, Bishop of Melitene, lived in the sixth century, in the time of the Emperor Justin the Younger. He was widowed early, took the monastic habit, and lived a holy, abstinent life. The saint was thirty when he was chosen Bishop of the city of Melitene. The fervent defender of Orthodoxy and the hierarch who loved his flock was often sent to Persia on state missions. Surrounded by universal warmth, Domitian often received rich gifts, but he distributed them to the poor and the destitute. By God’s will the saint shone with many miracles worked in his lifetime and after his death.
