St Zosimas the Monk and Athanasius (III–IV)

The Venerable Zosimas the Confessor came from Cilicia. In the time of Diocletian (284–305) he was seized and cruelly tortured for confessing Christ, but by God’s will he remained unharmed. A witness of this miracle, the prison overseer Athanasius, believed in the true God and was baptised. After their release the saints went out into the desert, settled in a cleft of a mountain, and laboured there until their end.
