Description

The pyx holds the greatest Christian treasure, the Body and Blood of Christ, so clergy wear it on the breast with special reverence; this model has a metal chain for that purpose. Inside is everything needed for Communion: a box for the Body of Christ, a spoon and a small chalice. Being light, the pyx is also easy to carry.

The lid of the gilded pyx shows Jesus Christ crucified. Beside Him are the Mother of God and St John the Theologian, and below the rocks of Golgotha and the skull of Adam. It signifies that by the death of the Second Adam (Christ) death, brought into the world by the first Adam, was overcome.
