Description

When someone cannot come to church for health reasons, the priest gives Communion to the sick person at home. A pyx is used to carry the Holy Gifts. This model holds everything needed for Communion: a box for the Body of Christ, a spoon and a small chalice.

The lid of the gilded pyx shows Jesus Christ crucified, with the spear and the reed beside Him, and below the rocks of Golgotha and the skull of Adam. It signifies that by the death of the Second Adam (Christ) death, brought into the world by the first Adam, was overcome.
