St Sergius of Radonezh is one of the most venerated saints in Russia. From childhood Sergius longed for the monastic life, but his parents, Saints Cyril and Mary, asked him not to enter a monastery while they lived. After their repose St Sergius went into the wild forest in search of silence and prayer, and in time the Holy Trinity–St Sergius Lavra grew up on that spot.
This icon of St Sergius of Radonezh in a moulded frame is a lovely name-day gift for anyone named Sergius.
