Hymns Read in Place of “It Is Truly Meet” throughout the Year

God is the Lord and hath appeared unto us today; prepare the feast and come with gladness, and let us magnify Christ with palms and the branches of those who praise Him: Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord unto the ages.

Magnify, O Christ, Thy Mother the Theotokos, through whom Thou, the Maker of our nature, becoming like us in passions, didst put on flesh that delivereth from ignorance; her therefore all generations call blessed, and they magnify Thee.

Thee who didst contain in thy womb the uncontainable God and didst give birth to the joy of the world, we magnify, O Virgin Theotokos.

With purified souls and upright lips come, let us magnify the unwedded and all-immaculate Mother of Emmanuel, who bringeth intercession to Him who was born of her: Spare our souls, O Christ our God, and save us.

Come, O faithful, let us enjoy the Master’s hospitality and the immortal table in the upper place with uplifted minds, having learned the exalted word from the Word, whom we magnify.

More honourable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who without corruption gavest birth to God the Word, the only Theotokos, we magnify thee in song.

Weep not for Me, O Mother, beholding in the tomb the Son whom thou didst conceive in the womb without seed; for I shall rise and be glorified as God, and shall exalt in glory those who in faith and longing sing to thee unceasingly.

The angel cried to her who is full of grace: O pure Virgin, rejoice, and again I say, rejoice! Thy Son is risen from the tomb on the third day and hath raised the dead: rejoice, O ye peoples!

Shine, shine, O new Jerusalem, for the glory of the Lord hath shone upon thee; exult now and be glad, O Zion; and do thou, O pure Theotokos, rejoice in the resurrection of thy Son.

My soul magnifieth Christ the Giver of life, who hath ascended from earth to heaven.

Thou didst bear, O Virgin, Him whom natures cannot grasp, the Timeless One, ineffably; therefore, O immaculate one, all the faithful magnify thee.

The apostles, beholding the descent of the Comforter, marvelled how the Holy Spirit appeared in the form of tongues of fire.

Rejoice, O holy Queen, glory of mothers, eye of virgins; for we cannot worthily tell the praise of thy childbearing; therefore we magnify thee in faith.

Magnify, O my soul, the Lord transfigured on Tabor.

Thy childbearing is incorrupt, O Virgin: God came forth from thy womb incarnate and dwelt among men; therefore, O Theotokos, we all rightly magnify thee.

The angels, beholding the Dormition of the all-pure one, marvelled how the Virgin goeth up from earth to heaven.

The laws of nature are overcome in thee, O pure Virgin: a virgin birth and a life-giving death; after childbirth thou remainest a virgin, and having died thou art alive, O Theotokos; rightly we magnify thee.

My soul magnifieth the Virgin Mary, born of the barren.

The heavens on high were amazed and the ends of the earth trembled, when God appeared to men through thee and made thy womb higher than the thrones of heaven; therefore, O Theotokos, angels and men magnify thee as thou art worthy.

My soul magnifieth the most precious Cross of the Lord.

Thou art a mystical paradise, O Theotokos, who untilled didst bring forth Christ; and we, clothed with life through the Cross, now exalt the tree planted upon the earth, venerate it and magnify thee.

The angels, beholding the entry of the all-pure one, marvelled how the Virgin went into the Holy of Holies.

The ark of the Law no hand could touch; but here today let the lips of us the faithful say thus with unceasing voice, together with Gabriel: Rejoice, O full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Magnify, O my soul, her who is more honourable and more glorious than the hosts on high, the Virgin, the most holy Theotokos.

Silence is fitting, since we cannot worthily praise thee today, O Theotokos; yet let us not keep silent from fear, but according to our power let us offer a hymn, whereby we may magnify thee.

In thee rejoiceth, O thou who art full of grace, all creation, the assembly of angels and the race of men; O sanctified temple and spiritual paradise, glory of virgins, from whom God, our God before the ages, took flesh and became a child; for He made thy womb a throne and thy body more spacious than the heavens. In thee rejoiceth, O thou who art full of grace, all creation: glory to thee.

Magnify, O my soul, her who is more honourable and more glorious than the hosts on high, the Virgin, the most holy Theotokos.

We of the earth cannot glorify thee as is due, and those of heaven grow faint, O Theotokos, for thou art become higher than they; accept our faith — thou knowest our love — and as the light of Christianity we magnify thee.

O Virgin Theotokos, hope of Christians, shelter, guard and save us, for we have set our hope on thee.

From the writings of the Law we the faithful have learned that every male child that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord; behold, today we have seen the Firstborn from heaven and on earth, and in faith we magnify Him.

Proclaim, O earth, great joy; praise the Mother of the God of heaven.

The ark of the Law no hand could touch; but here today let the lips of us the faithful say thus with unceasing voice, together with Gabriel: Rejoice, O full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
