Holy Martyr Anthony (V)

The holy Martyr Anthony lived in Syria in the fifth century. He was a stonemason. Moved by divine zeal, the saint smashed the statues of the false gods in a pagan temple and, with the blessing of the bishop of Apamea in Syria, began building a church of the Holy Trinity near the city. When the pagans living in Apamea learned of this, they broke into the blessed Anthony’s house at night and hacked him to pieces with swords.
