Venerable Luke of Taormina (+800–820)

The Venerable Luke of Taormina came from the Sicilian city of Taormina. While still young he left his parents and his betrothed and made his way to the wilderness, where he spent many years in fasting and prayer. The blessed one laboured on Mount Etna, where towards the end of his life, by a revelation from on high, he founded a monastery. To learn the rules of other houses the Lord’s chosen one travelled through many cities. On one such journey, in the city of Corinth, he committed his soul to the Lord in peace (beginning of the 9th century).
