Saint Gregory, Archbishop of Alexandria (IX)

Saint Gregory, bishop of Alexandria, a hierarch adorned with every virtue, suffered for defending the veneration of the holy icons in the time of the Emperor Leo the Armenian (813–820). The saint, who endured every kind of torture and fearlessly exposed the heresy of the iconoclasts, died in exile.
