Holy Martyrs and Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian of Arabia and Their Brothers Leontius, Anthimus and Eutropius (+287 or +303)

The holy Martyrs and unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian were Arabs. They preached the Gospel and healed the sick by the power of Christ, and asked no payment for the service they gave. In Cilicia the pagans seized the physicians and brought them to the governor Lysias. The lawless man demanded that they deny the Christian faith, which the martyrs firmly refused. For this, by Lysias’s order, the saints were cruelly beaten and thrown into the sea, but an angel brought them out of the deep to the shore. Then the pagans beheaded the Lord’s chosen ones. Together with the holy physicians their brothers too suffered: Leontius, Anthimus and Eutropius (Saints Cosmas and Damian of Arabia should be distinguished from the saints of the same name who are commemorated on 1 July and 1 November).
