Venerable Nicetas the Confessor (+c. 838)

The Venerable Nicetas the Confessor was born in Paphlagonia (Asia Minor). At first he held a distinguished position at the Byzantine royal court, but then he became a monk and laboured in one of the houses of Constantinople. When the iconoclast Theophilus (829–842) ascended the throne, the Venerable Nicetas was expelled from the monastery for exposing the heresy. The Lord’s chosen one died around 838, at the age of seventy-five.
