Venerable Copres (+c. 530)
The Venerable Copres was found by the monks of the monastery of Theodosius the Great on a heap of dung (in Greek, “kopria”) in Palestine. His mother had left him there as a newborn when fleeing from the invading Persians. The fathers took the infant to the monastery, named him Copres and brought him up in the fear of God. Afterwards the blessed one was tonsured a monk and spent his whole life in the house where he had grown up. The Lord’s chosen one reached the heights of the virtues and gained the gift of working miracles; he died at the age of ninety (+c. 530).
