Holy Martyr Agathoclia

The years of the life and labours of the holy Martyr Agathoclia are unknown; we know only that she was the handmaid of a pagan mistress who hated Christ. This woman bitterly hated Agathoclia for confessing Christ, and for eight years tormented her cruelly. Once the furious woman injured her maid’s spine with beating, then cut off the tip of her tongue as well, but could by no means bend the saint or induce her to offer pagan sacrifice. The godless mistress threw her into prison. Every day birds brought Agathoclia food. At last the lawless woman, out of her mind with malice, went into the prison and took Agathoclia’s life.
