The Holy 156 Martyrs: Peleus and Nilus, Egyptian Bishops, Zeno the Presbyter, Patermuthius, Elias and Others (+c. 310)
The holy hundred and fifty-six martyrs, Peleus and Nilus, Egyptian bishops, Zeno the presbyter, Patermuthius, Elias and others, died in the time of the Emperor Maximian Galerius (305–311). Most of the martyrs were Egyptians, and there were Palestinians among them as well. Firmilian, the governor of Palestine, seized them and tortured them cruelly: the eyes of the blessed ones were put out and the sinews of their feet were cut… At last a hundred of the martyrs were beheaded, and the rest were burned.
