Holy Martyr Ia (+362–364)

The holy Martyr Ia is identified with the Venerable Martyr Eudocia (commemorated 4 August), who was among the Christians carried captive by Sapor II to the Persian city of Bizada. The pagans seized her for preaching the true faith. The chief priest insistently demanded that the blessed one blaspheme the true God, but in vain. After this Saint Ia was tortured and thrown into prison; and after repeated torture she was beheaded (see the reading for 4 August).
