Uncovering of the Relics of St Joasaph of Belgorod (1911)

The holy hierarch Joasaph of Belgorod (in the world Joachim) was a descendant of the noble family of the Gorlenkos. He was born in Priluki, in the former province of Poltava, on 8 September 1705, the feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God. The saint had firmly decided on his path and soon became a monk. In 1728 the saint was ordained hierodeacon, in 1734 hieromonk, and on 2 June 1748 he was consecrated Bishop of Belgorod. On 10 December 1754 Joasaph of Belgorod, radiant with holiness, commended his soul to the Lord in peace. He was canonised on 4 September 1911.
