Holy Hieromartyr Patrick, Bishop of Prusa, and with Him Three Presbyters: Acacius, Menander and Polyaenus (100)
The holy Hieromartyr Patrick, Bishop of Prusa, and with him three presbyters, Acacius, Menander and Polyaenus (+100). Saint Patrick was Bishop of Prusa in Bithynia. The hierarch was seized with three priests, Acacius, Menander and Polyaenus, and brought before the ruler of the city, Julius. The ruler was going to take a cure, and ordered the bishop and the priests to be brought along to him in chains. After bathing in the healing waters Julius offered sacrifice to the idols and ordered Saint Patrick and the other prisoners to do the same.
Saint Patrick answered: “I am a Christian, and I obey the one true God, Jesus Christ, who created heaven and earth and these hot waters too for the healing of men.” By Julius’s order Saint Patrick was thrown into the hot water. The hierarch fervently besought the Lord: “Lord Jesus Christ, help Thy servant.” By God’s providence the saint was kept unharmed.
The enraged Julius ordered the Christians to be beheaded.
The martyrs met their end in 100.
