Holy Martyr Kalutas of Egypt (284–308)
The holy Martyr Kalutas of Egypt (284–308) was from the city of Thebes. For confessing Christ he was seized and brought before the ruler of the city. By his order the saint was hung head downwards, a heavy stone was tied round his neck, and he was cruelly beaten. The lamb of Christ bore the torment for the glory of God. Then Kalutas was taken down and ordered to offer sacrifice to the idols. When they received a firm refusal in reply, the enraged pagans burned him in fire. Saint Kalutas suffered in the time of the Emperor Maximian Herculius, the co-ruler of Diocletian.
