St Macedonius, Patriarch of Constantinople
Saint Macedonius, Patriarch of Constantinople (+516), governed the flock of Constantinople in 496–511. For speaking out against the heresy of Eutyches the Emperor Anastasius I (491–518) exiled the saint to Paphlagonia, where he died in 516. His body is buried in Constantinople, in the church of Saint Callinicus. During the funeral service the departed hierarch made the sign of the cross.
