Martyrs Basilissa and Anastasia (I)
Saints Basilissa and Anastasia (I) lived in Rome. They were enlightened with the light of the Christian faith by the holy Apostles Peter and Paul. They dedicated themselves to the service of God. When, by Nero’s (54–68) order, the persecution and torture of Christians began, Saints Basilissa and Anastasia fearlessly cared for the bodies of the martyrs. When Nero learned of this, Saints Basilissa and Anastasia were seized and cruelly tortured. The saints fearlessly confessed the faith of the Saviour. By Nero’s order they were beheaded (+c. 68).
