Apostles Aristarchus, Pudens and Trophimus (+c. 67)
The holy Apostles Aristarchus, Pudens and Trophimus (I) were of the Seventy apostles whom our Saviour Jesus Christ Himself sent out to preach (Luke 10:1).
The holy Apostle Aristarchus was a fellow labourer of the holy Apostle Paul. Later he became Bishop of the Syrian city of Apamea. His name is often mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles (19:29; 20:4; 27:2) and in the epistles of the holy Apostle Paul (Col. 4:10; Philem. 24).
The holy Apostle Pudens is mentioned in the Second Epistle of the holy Apostle Paul to Timothy (2 Tim. 4:21). He held a high office in the Roman senate. The apostles used to gather in the house of Saint Pudens; later this house was turned into a church where, according to tradition, the holy apostle himself served as priest.
The holy Apostle Trophimus was from Ephesus. He is mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles (20:4) and in the Second Epistle to Timothy (4:20). He was a disciple and travelling companion of the holy Apostle Paul, and shared his hardships and persecutions.
All three apostles met a martyr’s end in Rome in the time of the Emperor Nero.
