Venerable Theodora of Thessalonica (+892)
The Venerable Theodora of Thessalonica (+892) was the daughter of the Christian parents Antony and Chrysanthe. On coming of age Theodora married and had a daughter. After the Saracen invasion (823) the young couple moved to Thessalonica. There the Venerable Theodora entrusted her daughter to a convent, and after her husband’s death she herself took the veil.
The saint’s obedience, fasting and prayer were pleasing to the Lord, and Theodora received the gift of wonderworking. The venerable mother worked miracles after her death too. When the abbess of the convent died and they wanted to lay her coffin beside the coffin of the Venerable Theodora, the venerable mother, coffin and all, moved aside as though alive: even after death she showed an example of obedience.
