The holy 42 Martyrs of Amorium: Constantine, Aetius, Theophilus, Theodore, Melissenus, Callistus, Basoes and others (+845). During the war between the Greeks and the Saracens (829–842) the Saracens took the city of Amorium (Galatia). The enemy took captive 42 warriors who had defended the city and carried them off to Syria. The men of Amorium courageously endured many tortures and remained faithful soldiers of Christ. It was decided to put the unbroken warriors to death: they were beheaded and their bodies thrown into the Euphrates.
