Venerable Bucolus, Bishop of Smyrna (+c. 100)

The Venerable Bucolus was a disciple of the holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian, and was consecrated by him the first Bishop of the Church of Smyrna (Asia Minor).

By the grace of God the chief shepherd converted many pagans to the law of Christ. An experienced and wise teacher, he faithfully protected his flock from the darkness of heresies. He reposed in peace around 100–105.

On Saint Bucolus’s grave a tree grew up, which miraculously healed the sick.
